somehow I just never got into Alice in Chains
then I saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9iK4xDnG_g and it was the best fucking thing ever. Where to start, AiC fans?

Dirt
I'd actually say start with Facelift
It's catchier and more accessible.
Good grief no
Dude, Facelift is proper ace
Man in a Box
Sea of Sorrow
It's cum-in=pants stuff
Could never get on with Facelift
Man in a Box was a good song, but the rest did nothing for me.
Just the opening riff of the whole record
is good enough.
You poor thing.
Alice in Chains were the greatest grunge band.
*third greatest
List please.
Soundgarden
Mudhoney
Alice in Chains
AIC shat all over Soundgarden
No.
Superunknown remains the greatest album of all time.
Dirt is merely 21st.
It's not better than Siamese Dream or Ten
Although I guess we'll never agree.
AT LEAST WE APPRECIATE THE ART RIGHT?
Siamese Dream, grunge? Not sure about that.
If so Nirvana are getting kicked off my list.
I more meant guitar albums from the early 90s
than grunge.
If that is the case.
MELVINS x 100,000,000
I'd have.....
1. Soundgarden
2. Screaming Trees
3. Alice In Chains
Dust and Sweet Oblivion by ST were far stronger throughout for me. Not a duff track throughout (although I can't stand Uncle Anasthesia), but at their best AIC had the best songs of the 2. Them Bones, Dirt, Down In A Hole, Nutshell, I Stay Away, Brother, Got Me Wrong were all seriously great songs. Soundgarden just had a ton of great songs.
I agree that Dust and Sweet Oblivion are both fantastic records.
But I don't think either is quite as good as Dirt.
Can't agree with this at all.
AiC
L7
Nirvana
Would be my top three.
L7... really?
Loved them at the time, but they've dated pretty poorly I think.
dirt or jar of flies
Jar of Flies
if you like them acoustic. Prolly my fave thing they did.
must hit F5
Jar of Flies is wonderful.
Sap's not quite as good, but still worth hearing.
Unplugged is pretty amazing
It's not a good place to start, but definitely required listening later on.
Right, that's it!
I'm listening to Alice in Chains today! Thank you for the prompt.
I also must be one the of the few people that really loved Grind.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNK19_u6KFM
I'm the opposite
I used to like them a lot, now I think 'what was I thinking?'...
I got to that stage
then 'Grind' popped up on shuffle a while back and I was all, "no wait...actually this is pretty great. 16 year old me: you are forgiven."
Also if like AiC
Check out Gruntruck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TPVWJQYjxw
Another grunge band which leaned on the more metal side.
I'd probably start about 3mins before that
'Man in The Box' guitar solo. Oooooof!
That last album - the one with the new singer...
Underrated.
^ Not implying that you should start here though
Bloody good innit?
I assumed it would be shite. Fair play to them.
jerry solo had his moments
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUSwO1_yQCs
I heard tales of Jerry Cantrell
strutting round Newport before a gig wearing a fur coat, acting like his shit don't stink.
HIS SHIT DOESN'T STINK SIR
just listened to man in a box
jesus, really hasn't held up well
the consensus seemed to be dirt so I listened to that first
and it was awesome. cheers!
what's next?
All these "grunge" bands...
were just metal bands for a new bunch of losers. Made fun of them back then, still do today. Go wear a plaid shirt around your waist like a skirt.
You seem nice
That was me: circa 1994.
Plaid shirt tied round my waste. Superunknown t shirt. Green Doc Martens. Undercut hair.
I REGRET NOTHING
waste????
Those were the days
So grunge we wrapped our faeces in plaid before disposing of it
like,
whatever
You sir, are a fool of a Took.
I fucking love jar of flies
that's been my top listened to album so far, followed by dirt and then unplugged and then the self titled. haven't heard any of the others yet
