I love it.

I think it's severely over looked in his canon and up there with his best.

There are moments of sheer over- indulgence but they're fun. It's completely over the top but there are lines in there that are heart wrenchingly good:

Love at first sight
It may sound trite
But it's true, you know
I could list the detail
Of everything you ever wore or said
Or how you stood the day
As we spent the last night
On Maudlin Street

And

When I sleep
With that picture of you framed beside my bed
Oh, it's childish and it's silly

(...yes, I told you it was silly...)

I think it's up there with the best stuff he's written. The music is great too. I wish there was more material from the Moz/Reilly collaboration.

it's his solo I Know It's Over, or compare the two.

Without thinking it's up there with that, or as good, i kind of agree.

And the vocals are better than any he did in the smiths. morrideys voice was at its best on those first few solo albums.

"your Gran died.. " and it became a catchphrase for a while. still seems hillarious.

I'd even stick my neck out and say Viva Hate is up there with the rest of The Smiths' cannon.

this song would be infinitely better without the drums

I'm not a big fan of Viva Hate in general, and I prefer 'I Don't Mind If You Forget Me' which probably says a lot.
