'Late Night, Maudlin Street' by Morrissey...

What are your thoughts on it?
Mine vary wildly depending on how drunk i am.
Have honestly never been able to definitively confirm whether it's cheesy pap, a career-defining epic, or y'know, just okay.

Fantastic
I love it.
I think it's severely over looked in his canon and up there with his best.
There are moments of sheer over- indulgence but they're fun. It's completely over the top but there are lines in there that are heart wrenchingly good:
Love at first sight
It may sound trite
But it's true, you know
I could list the detail
Of everything you ever wore or said
Or how you stood the day
As we spent the last night
On Maudlin Street
And
When I sleep
With that picture of you framed beside my bed
Oh, it's childish and it's silly
But I think it's you in my room, by the bed
(...yes, I told you it was silly...)
I think it's up there with the best stuff he's written. The music is great too. I wish there was more material from the Moz/Reilly collaboration.
I've read a couple of writers say...
it's his solo I Know It's Over, or compare the two.
Without thinking it's up there with that, or as good, i kind of agree.
he's a dildo
period.
HEY GUYS, LOOK...
THIS GUY HAS OPINIONS ON STUFF.
i think its great
And the vocals are better than any he did in the smiths. morrideys voice was at its best on those first few solo albums.
me and a mate used to howl at
"your Gran died.. " and it became a catchphrase for a while. still seems hillarious.
Was your mate Dr.Harold Shipman?
It's hard to know, i think I will go with epic.
I think it's one of his best
I'd even stick my neck out and say Viva Hate is up there with the rest of The Smiths' cannon.
*canon
Before the gun jokes begin...
this song would be infinitely better without the drums
It's alright
I'm not a big fan of Viva Hate in general, and I prefer 'I Don't Mind If You Forget Me' which probably says a lot.
Any news in the book i.e when is it out?!?
Was hoping it would be out in time for my christmas list
Vini Reilly is the reason for Viva Hate's greatness
well him and Stephen Street. Reilly changed all the guitar parts and basically rewrote all the demos Street and Moz had done.
