This is an excellent list of albums
good work
Looking at the votes page it looked certain 100 Broken Windows would win
No Orange Juice?
No Aztec Camera?
No Pastels?
No Associates?
No Altered Images?
No Deacon Blue/Big Country/Runrig ?
Sheena Easton, Bay City Rollers, Calvin Harris, David Byrne, Ivor Cutler, Franz Ferdinand, Gallagher & Lyle, Simple Minds, Emeli Sandé, Dire Straits, Annie Lennox, Lloyd Cole, Shirley Manson, Lulu, Nazareth, The Proclaimers, Fairground Attraction, Gerry Rafferty, B.A. Robertson, Texas, Snow Patrol, AC/DC ... your team took one hell of a beating
Bay City Rollers.....?
Category was BEST of Scotland....not Prats From Scotland!
Would you seriously consider any Talking Heads / David Byrne material to be Scottish?
I know he was born here but... naw mate, just naw. He's American.
Just realised when you put suggestions for Shirley Manson and Texas you were trolling
: (
Standard DiS
Weighted towards the last 2-3 decades (I assume reflecting its demographic).
Having said that, I'm surprised about Franz Ferdinand,
got a lot of time for pretty much every album on this last
apart from withered hand
why those particular number of points?
indie points
Weighting for top 2 choices.
Made sense to have the same number of points available overall for a person's list regardless of whether it was ordered or not.... And a lot were in no particular order.
thanks for the effort
a lot of stuff to check out. suppose frightened rabbit would be the place to start
Biffy, Meursault and Withered Hand get tae Takashi Fukunishi
Oh I didn't know there was a deadline. :(
give us your 5 anyway
Umm
1. Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows
2. The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters
3. Frightened Rabbit - Sing The Greys
4. Mogwai - Young Team
5. Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
Off the top of my head.
Or maybe The Three EPs at 5, I'm not sure
Glad you missed it, that would've given The Twilight Sad top spot ;)
No My Latest Novel or Uncle John and Whitelock...
...FAIL.
Good news on JAMC, BoC, Mogwai and Primal Scream tho.
Can we start picking the next one now? Wales? Ireland?
Anything that combines my love of ranking albums with my love of Britain's Best Dish is a winner
needs more Great Cop
really glad Life Without Buildings won
missed the boat
1. Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows
2. The Twilight Sad - Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters
3. Mogwai - Rock Action
4. Belle & Seb - The Boy With The Arab Strap
5. Frightened Rabbit - Midnight Organ Fight
huh, thought Meursault would be higher
oh well, cranking list anyway. That first Twilight album still hits me pretty strong, best accent put to tape?
The top two make this a pretty bad list
I don't understand how Frightened Rabbit has ended up so high.
Do people really think it's the best Scottish album of all time? Really? Because that amazes me.
The rest of the list is pretty good mind you.
I personally do, granted there a couple albums on the list and a few that have
appeared on both threads that I haven't heard and need to check out. For me it's the best for a few reasons, the songwriting, lyrics, imagery but ultimately the reason I think its ended up number one and so high on peoples list is the unique 'Scottishness' of it! The self depreciation, booze soaked lyrics and Scottish colloquialism's make it one of those albums that immediately springs to mind when you think of good Scottish music
A good post, thanks.
I am not sure I agree with it, but it's a good set of reasons. I'm not saying it's bad - I used to rinse it - but I just feel it's not the "best" y'know? Interesting poll though.
Yeah I know what you mean, and despite it being my favourite
I was surprised it came out top, there's a lot of strong competition. Really interesting to see so many relatively recent releases make the top 20 as well
This list purely tells me that my life mission to go on and on about Arab Strap until everyone dies of boredom
is still incomplete
Yep.
Not much better than Arab Strap on full flow really.
I really like Monday At The Hug & Pint
and some of Aidan's stuff. Need to listen to some more.
Great list, good effort pulling this together!
nae country teasers?
pah
Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit above JAMC, Cocteaus, Primal Scream?
No Orange Juice, Associates, Aztec Camera, Incredible String Band?
Was there a lot of English people voting here and trolling en masse just to piss off the Scots?
this post was done better upthread
Very surprised by the choice of Cocteau album
I would have thought Head Over Heels, or Treasure
Aye
I was thinking it'd have to be Treasure or Blue Bell Knoll. Didn't expect that one to be the favourite.
So good to see
Life Without Buildings on that list
