Where to start with Swans
I'd never listened to Swans until a couple of months ago when the Seer was released and I really like it. would anyone be able to inform me on where is a good place start with their older albums?

Swan Lake
Swans are Dead is probably as good a place as any to start
It's a live album with tracks from most if their pre-breakup period.
Soundtracks for the Blind
is quite Seer-y. But with added Jarboe. Their best, methinks.
Is the newest record a good place to start if you've never heard any of it?
Feel like I should give them a try.
I reckon so
It's very varied and has a range of stuff from the various styles they've encompassed over the years and it's more accessible than a lot of their albums.
If you don't like it you'll probably not like their earlier records, if you do they will be worth investigating.
It depends where your tastes lie
If you can deal with the more brutal stuff (i.e. their *really* uncompromising early stuff), Cop/Young God (or the compilation with Greed/Holy Money as well) is absolutely essential. Otherwise Children of God or The Great Annihilator (which are rather more mellow, in the main) should also be on your listening list.
Basically, though, the whole lot should be heard, with the possible exception of The Burning World.
