FAO shoegaze fans - documentary seeking funding
I know there's quite a few shoegaze fans on these boards, so thought I'd stick this up here (thanks DiS for eating my last OP).
What sounds like a fairly exhaustive/extensive project seems to have taken in all of the major players of the scene, in addition to a bunch of famous faces from the era not necessarily normally associated with shoegaze (Robert Smith, Billy Corgan, Trent Reznor). The creators are looking for funding from Kickstarter donations to get the the finished project out there. Link below:

This looks basically incredible.
Will definitely help out.
Reading that^ lineup of contributors...
...certainly got me excited. It looks like he's spoken to EVERYONE.
Glad they've spoken to Bob Smith as
I've always thought he was more than just a peripheral figure when it came to the genre. It was Wish that got me into stuff like Ride and Chapterhouse. He was an influence on and ultimately influenced by a lot of those bands.
I also have a Cure interview vinyl disc from 1991, where he says that the only way they agreed to play the big BRIT Wembley gigs that year was if Ride supported them. I'd have loved to have seen that.
Gillespie might ruin it though.
They need to track down Ian Masters.
what's this shoegave thing all about, then?
Giving shoes to Africa maybe?
I thought that was called My Bloody Hushpuppies?
Fnar
Ouch...
So good to see
AR Kane getting the props due for their part in this.
Shame there's no Nicky Manic though :D
I'd like to help fund it, perhaps the option for a dvd pre-order? I wonder if Sonic Cathedral/Club AC30 have been asked if they wanted to contribute, they're a part of the reason shoegaze hasn't been forgotten about. That and Kevin Shields threatening to release a new album every year for the past two decades and getting distracted by, I dunno, pop tarts, flickering light on the wall, exhaling, etc.
we haven't
although i do recall swapping a couple of emails with eric green a few years ago about the project. can't recall in what context though!
would be great to see this finished - i pledged this morning.
as you say, nice to see ar kane in there, and also cranes and medicine.
I heard about this...
...via Sonic Cathedral tbf. Also, hi Robin!
I'd probably go as much as the $50 pledge
but it would mean getting a blu-ray instead of a DVD, and why the fuck would anyone want that?
It would be good if Alan Moulder could get Toni Halliday to chip in.
maybe Smith, Shields et al should put money into it.
Miki from Lush has (looking at the list of pledgers)
i'm a bit confused by the kickstarter thing
$25 before shipping sounds like a LOT for a DVD. would it be available for sale elsewhere after the target has been reached?
shoegaze?
Is that like shoegazING?
And here's a thing: I loved a lot of those bands. But they all dropped the ball, most of them frittering out due to self-consciousness about being part of a scene that very quickly became a parody of itself. It was left to many of the post-rock acts to take their nascent ideas to interesting places.
That's my opinion and you are fucking welcome to it.
No thanks
oh god
i hope if this happens it doesn't lead to yet another shoegaze revival and shitty mbv copycats. we've got enough of those already
I've backed it
Shame that I have to pay an extra $13 for non-US shipping but it's worth funding, not that I think they'll have any problems reaching their target. Can't wait to see the film.
Lunchtime bump...
...as the fundraising period is halfway through, as are the required donations. Get involved shoegazing folk.
4 more days
...to raise a little over $13 000! Bump.
I upped my donation
Hope they make it!
Budget has been met...
...good work everyone who contributed. Should we be looking out for anyone's name in the credits?
