Another sure sign of the 2012 apocalypse.

Bullet For My Valentine
on the off chance that this might actually happen...
holy shit!
hmmmm
Do you think he knows it's already November? Not long till the end of the year Kev.
well, if he's releasing it himself digitally then there's no reason it couldn't be out by the end of the year
but, still, that article is so thin they spend half of it talking about a Japanese artist.
playing live in May...
that's around Primavera time....hmmmmmm
Pant wettingly exciting...
Cheers, Obama!
chinny
i dont want to be a cynic
but i dont think the album's going to be worth all of the hassle
I think he just says this every once in a while to remind people he's still alive.
But
He has shilling for coins with Primal Scream for this.
Hasn't this album been "3/4 done" since 2007?
Either way, I'm excited for it. Even though I know its not going to come out this year.
And whats with releasing it on his own label? Surely someone at some big label will throw a ton of cash at him to release it.
I LOVE the idea that the man who has spent more time than anyone else
obsessing about getting the sound of his records just right will a d/l only release!
The man lives in dog years
It's not happening
:D
best post
fuck you all
I believe
so
warm up gig in Jan in the uk apparently...
He doesn't say which year...
Yeah, looking at this again, he blatantly meant next year
Which, in MBV terms, of course, means never.
At least that Avalanches album is just around the corner...
i'd fucking LOVE it if they went dubstep.
funny you should say that
he keeps going on about one of the drum n bass tracks that he made being on either the EP or album.
Not sure which release it would be on, but then again, neither does he.
It was due for release by the end of the year in 2008...
I'm still keeping everything crossed though.
Who cares really?
It's almost guaranteed to be shite. Who disappears* for 20 years and comes back good?
* from releasing albums at least
Who has disappered for 20 years and come back good?
MBV, that's who!
Wire
Can only think of one band who did it tbh
That was Mission of Burma, and their comeback album was great.
So all in all, it's a 100% record.
How is it 100%
when there is so much comeback wank like albums from The Stooges, Guns'n'Roses, etc?
Guns and Roses were never good, so you can't have that one
Had forgotten about The Stooges.
But there are very few bands who made seminal rock albums, had 20+ year hiatuses, then made comebacks releasing new material.
Hence, it's not a very good indicator of whether or not the album will be good.
Dinosaur Jr for sure
Dinosaur Jr didn't disappear for 20 years and J Mascis was still writing banging DJr-esque hits for his solo albums.
Yah
Neither did Portishead, or Godspeed, or Polvo, or Wire... Very few bands have done
it at all, so it's ridiculous to say the MBV comeback will be bad, because all the other 20+ year ones have been
Maybe not 20 years
But Ultrasound came back with a very good album after 13 years.
Godspeed came back after 10.
And, erm, others ...
And even if the new stuff is shite
It'll still mean more obscenely loud MBV gigs!
Polvo
but nobody cares about Polvo :(
Rebuild
MBV's career
on a well overdue MBV binge
as a result of this news
Have you all thought about what to do if the album turns out to be absolute shite
I mean there has to be at least a 50% chance it'll be Kevin Shields' Chinese Democracy.
seriously though
what do we all want from this record?
I'm hoping he's used 'To Here Knows When' as a jumping-off point. pop so woozy and dreamy in that heavy dreamy way that it only has the loosest grip on form/structure.
I'd love to hear something building on
Kevin's work on the Lost in Translation OST. Nice and night-timey.
I think a number of others (Ringo Deathstarr, etc)
have aped the more 'basic' (I use that word advisedly) of Loveless' sound that this is the only good option really. Loveless had the advantage of backing up the awesome sound with great tunes - so if he's just re-treading, they'll need to pop nuggets given the Shields Treatment or it will be a let down. Pants still wet mind.
The last thing they ever recorded
was this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUBcqs0Z9QA
And if they pick up from there, shit'll be fine.
I know it was a remix of a Primal Scream track but
if he went down the MBV Arkestra route (remix of If They Move Kill 'Em) then I'd be as happy as that chap over there called Larry. Failing that a Skip Spence style mental breakdown album with added brain gloopy guitar sounds, ie: sparse, emotional, not of this time.
That was an awesome track and a good extension of MBV's sound
I'd prefer that to the Lost In Translation stuff, which was good but not really very MBV (City Girl excepted).
Which calendar are his years based on?
