I purely go on how often I've heard an album on my mp3 player to
determine my Album Of The Year. I thought Tramp was very good but not that good.
Think that won't be the last best of year list Tramp tops
That and Channel Orange are going to carve it between them.
Good to see Field Music so high up
yeah, I hope to see more of this getting loved up in lists
Is there a prize for earliest Record of the Year list?
It's a bit like the Christmas ads on TV, getting earlier every year.
The problem is that less and less worthwhile albums get released after these lists come out meaning we now have a two month run of TV show tie-ins and bland compilations whilst back in September there was too much interesting stuff coming out to keep up.
That said, not a bad list. Like last year, a strikingly strong showing by female artists.
Rightly so
Shame they didn't shout louder when we were judging the AIM awards...
Is it me, or is the 6TH OF NOVEMBER?
Yeah but it's the old print deadline thing innit?
Online sites can leave theirs until a bit nearer the time.
most magazines do an issue in december tho?
note to self: don't bother reading the rest of the thread before posting
No Chromatics?
Liars is lower than I'd have thought the Fly would have it. Good list tho.
not always about them sean...
Bit early to be handing out best of the year, isn't it?
Also, that top five is totally wrong.
I love how early the Fly do their EOYL
It's one of their trademarks now isn't it? They could easily publish it in the December issue, but why wait!
oh wait -
do they have an issue in December? Some magazines might not, though that would usually be a January issue
no, they don't have a December issue
that's o.k. then
I agree with bornin69 up there - not too much will happen in the next 4 weeks, may as well do it now than beginning of 2013, when end of year lists just look a bit sad (which is when I always finish mine).
i prefer the beginning of 2013 ones.
because you know then that some genuine thought has gone into them, rather than a needy desire to be firsties or to join in with the herd.
well, that is how I look at it too
I do tend to spend the whole of December pissing about with it, so I consider mine as well considered as they can possibly be....but it still feels a little like it missed the boat. I enjoy the buzz of everyone's lists being out at the same time, it's like adding to the discourse.
I try not to take it too seriously anymore
I'm still finding albums from 2008 I far prefer to ones I had in my top ten back then.
As an aside
I don't think one of these records would make my top 15 of the year, Liars aside.
That list is so wrong
that it hurts.
* album of the 10 months
they probably ought to publish their best of 2012 in the first issue of 2013
or something
The've already review Crystal Castles' new record.
...
I'm sure the fact they're co-promoting a show with their number one album of the year is just coincidental too.
It's a nice album, it's not the best of the year in my opinion but I know a lot of people like it so I won't hold that against them (no more than the continual 3.5/4 star reviews for 80% of albums anyway).
*3.5 flies
