not the better bands
it's pretty much an invalid now. LIKE A PC. fnar hrh frnar ffhhfhahah
but I love that ad. Kudos
once I got used to the annoying voice. Having said that still pretty underwhelming to declare as best of the year
I'd have given it to Hawley: like they do at the Oscars when someone has been nominated half a dozen times previously and not won.
it's not the best thing ever, but few Mercury winners are.
stopped being deliberately contrary and have started choosing the more obvious option... which has made it all a bit boring. At least when they gave it to M People or Speech Debelle it gave us all a reason to shout at the TV
but really think Field Music deserved it, they've been grafting for a long time.
I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as say Tones Of Town which is their best album but a country mile.
my favourite release this year for a good 6 or 7 months. Listening to it now, it's glorious. I think Measure is better than Tones of Town but fuck it, they are all great.
they just pretty much represent why music fans like us love this shit. What a lovely, honest chap.
Measure is my favourite thing they've done. It took me a long time to work why everyone thought Plumb was so great, and I'm still a bit confused at all the hype it's been garnering, but I like it a lot more now than I did at first.
...but I don't think that means they shouldn't have won last night. More that Tones Of Town should have been nominated as well, in as much as these things matter.
Means I can add "played with Mercury Award winners Alt+J" to our band bio.
I'll leave out "to about 15 people" though.
I really, really like this album. Probably my second favourite of the year. Does this mean I get banned from DiS?
but find the Mercury awards pretty pointless.
that they are really aimed at the likes of us - as crablin pointed out once, they are spreading the word to a wider audience.
It does seem very limited in its scope & vision though...
Yeh it just feels like a chance to get the people that might not listen to music outside of in a club or a car the chance to get one 'alt' album whatever that might be.
is Bat for Lashes eligible for next year then?
I mean, it's a shame that awards are still about notoriety rather than actually having done a great album.
Speaking to Music Week on the win, Alt-J keyboard player Gus Unger-Hamilton - brother of Polydor UK boss Ferdy - said: "There's things you can aim for as a band, you can be a band that makes loads of money, or a band that plays amazing huge venues, but I think we're definitely a band that would want to win the Mercury.
