Musically Assisting in Churches etc
As it's a Sunday evening, there's a bit more freedom in worship - even to possibly experiment - so in the past I've done U2 and Open your eyes by Snow Patrol...

Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam
Speaking as a Christian who has regularly found himself at evening services that have promised freer and more experimental worship, only to discover that this meant that the band sounds more like Coldplay than normal, what I'm really after is blinding post rock ambiance in a worship setting - say This Will Destroy You with extra Kevin Shields on guitar and Chino Moreno leading the band. Hopes aren't high...

up to his old tricks, little rapscallion
d'oh.
ok. this was meant to be a post asking if anyone had experience of playing in a church setting as a non-believer and how they felt about it (weird? awkward? powerful? etc...)
i am a Christian, and was faced with the situation of performing in that setting and was faced with the OP, the worship leader trying to suggest that it'd be an experimental time with the best of U2 and Snow Patrol, which i found rather amusing.
Anyway, if there's any thread remaining, go for it, thoughts of being asked to play in a religious context that you have no sympathy towards.
I call BS on this
the only mass that happens on Sunday evening is the one on Songs of Praise.
I managed to sneak 'talk show host' on a sunday morning
and 'Back in Black' while leading on the electric guitar - think I got away with it!
man I played guitar in church from the ages of about 10 to 14
WHY DID I NEVER DO THIS
I might have to start going back to church again.
How many of us clicked on this thread because...
we thought it had something to do with hotly discussed band Chvrches recruiting new members or stage performers? Not that, y'know, we'd, like, care or anything... who listens to Chvrches anyway?
absolutely no-one
ha Amander Palmer 2.0?
