Im struggling to decide.
but it is really good.
OMC - How Bizarre
Len - Steal My Sunshine
Bran Van 3000 - Drinking in LA
that's a certified hit.
they are not a one hit wonder
go wild in the country was also a hit for them
One hit wonder?
Still not sure I'd ever heard it before. I mean, yeah, the instrumental hook's dead familiar, but the rest? Not so much. Stopped listening after about a minute and a half. Bit nothing-y.
You have ONE hit. ONE.
I Monster - Daydream In Blue
sting's the russians had profokiev
I always assumed they sold lot of copies of their cover of Jolene cause its so good but I guess not!!!
Rui Da Silva- Touch Me
A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)
I love this band and I thought they only had become famous thanks to this single - at least this was their biggest selling single in the U.S. (but not in UK).
the indie option
members of colourbox & a r kane in that
is to say you love the B-side more.
At our school christmas disco in 1987, I requested Anitina, then asked a girl I knew to request it too. The DJ put it on, I had a moment of victory and he whipped it off after about 60 seconds.
1 Billion indie points.
you do mean you pulled the girl, right?
So no. In my defence, I was only 13 and was more bothered about music than girls.
The girl was just a pawn in my evil game of getting the whole school dancing to Anitina muhahahahahaha...
Heard it a few times in Ibiza this summer.
Soho - Hippy Chick
Sly Fox - Let's Go All The Way
Headswim - Tourniquet
Auf Der Mar - Followed The Waves
Hurricane #1 - Step Into My World
Manbreak - Are You Ready?
'Only The Strongest Will Survive' was in a Sun advert and did better in the charts than Step Into My World. I hate myself for knowing this.
But on the KIDS soundtrack is a brilliant hip hop track called 'Mad fright night' by Lo-Down.
Never been able to track down ANYTHING else by them though.
But in terms of the actual hit itself, quite possibly White Town.
8 top 40 hits
Heard it for the first time in ages yesterday - blew me away. "We did absolutely nothing that day" - great record.
Actually both Bran Van 3000 albums are great too, especially the second without any hits on it...
When it comes to slacker pop one hit wonders.
It's just a brilliant song by any reckoning.
Also, and silmilarly, I second Sly Fox - Let's go all the way
Skee-lo - I wish
I Wish was great
Wolfman (ft. Pete Doherty) - For Lovers
the facts dont lie though, not just 8 top 75 nominal-hits-that-don't-really-count-cos-outside-of-the-top-40, but 8 singles in the top 40.
I know I couldn't
proper gold-standard pop tune
4 million thiseses
lisa loeb - stay(i missed you)
(was that the band?)
What a tune.
(though they had a no 99 follow up)
Especially covers as bad as that! ;-)
WOAH WOAH WOOOOAAOAOAHAAAH
that was a cover
Aint no love by sub sub
Groove is in the heart by Deelite count?
Who had several hits, so I'm not sure.
You just can't argue with lyrics like these:
Seam in a fusing mine
Like a nursing rhyme
Fat man starts to fall
Here in a hostile place
I hear your face start to call
Does that count?
Or did they have any minor hits after?
but they bucked the trend and sank WITH Trace
According to Wikipedia. But no top 20s. I reckon you're good.
when he had a tv show
that's prime time
I'd never heard this before. It sounds far more like late 90's pop-punk than late 80's indie.
S-s-s-single bed by Fox Piss
Peter Hook on form.
Had more than one hit. "Sweet Lips" went top 20 i think.
has a habit of getting into my head for no good reason. And there it goes again.
Yes DJ Pied Piper, yes I do.
plenty of hits between them. good tune doe
But they literally only made one tune together, and it's one of the all time great dance-pop singles.
They had several other hits in Germany, but they don't count.
Althea & Donna w/ Uptown Top Ranking
Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin w/ Je t'aime...
Crazy World of Arthur Brown w/ Fire
Tubeway Army w/ Are Friends Electric?
Mr Oizo w/ Flat Beat
The Timelords w/ Doctorin' the Tardis
Lee Marvin w/ Wand'rin Star
quite a big deal in the electrnoica "scene"?
...but to continue on the same line of thinking, Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu w/ It's Grim Up North is probably my actual favourite.
Kinda incredible that it managed to get to number 10 in the charts and onto Now! 20.
I mean, this is probably the best song to ever break the top 3, and will most likely never be beaten:
One of the best of the 90s? No way.
Pretty much the best song ever.
I guess not a "hit" but the only single he ever did. And it's brilliant.
i totally dismissed Touch Me when it came out. absolutely loving it now!
that Mousse T & Tom Jones thing is TOTALLY SEPARATE
Aloe Blacc - I need a dollar
Black Box - Ride on time
Ashford and Simpson - Solid
Double 99 - Rip Groove
Led Zep - Whole Lotta Love?
Technically, it qualifies.
... but no one uses that very narrow metric.
No other top 40 singles (until they re-released Atmosphere years later).
[Sidenote: Love Will Tear and Atmosphere both went to #1 in New Zealand, Transmission to #2, and the albums to #1 and #3]
But if we can have Led Zep, I can have JD...and it was their only hit...
although I want it put on record that I'm also not happy about LZ being in here. Not at all.
than any sportsman ever could
Peter Starsedt - where do you go to my lovely
Martha & the Muffins - Echo Beach
Steal my sunshine and drinking in LA is 'heaven is a halfpipe' by OPM
Don't think he had another hit - none of his other songs are a patch on it.
da-bu-dee da-bu-dai da-bu-dee da-bu-dai-ai-ai-ai
Also - Ian Hunter: Once Bitten Twice Shy
I gotta call you on that one
or Joe Jackson only ever did Steppin' Out
thus entirely invalidating my childhood
The Barracudas - Summer Fun
Thunderclap Newman - Something In The Air
From their ill-fated first album. I think they ended up putting it on their iller-fated second album too.
Lying in my bed for hours, rolling up and feeling down
Burying my head in the space that you left
And I'm trying on the bra that I found
Still, there was a great David Holmes remix on the single:
"witchi tai to" - everything is everything
but then there's "city slang" - sonic's rendezvous band. now THAT'S a ONE HIT WONDER!
Was the fastest selling single ever at the time or something ridiculous. Every most likely ejected the CD after the 40-second point.
I did a clubnight a few years ago where we only played one-hit wonders. This was the playlist.

Mark morrison - return of the mac..
didn't they? Which they infamously didn't know was about heroin until someone pointed it out to them in an interview.
It shows they didnt have anything else
... in the early an mid 70s there were "albums bands" and "singles bands" who were each promoted as such by the record companies. There was little point in Zeppelin, Floyd, etc releasing singles as their fans would turn up their nose at them and they would get no airplay. Less popular "albums" bands DID release singles but these were unenthusiastically promoted, if at all, and any hits would come by accident ("Silver Machine" by Hawksind being a fine example of this.
because she only knew Alright.
SO wrong! So damn wrong!
released plenty in japan, america etc
i have a japanese 7" of one of the singles from presence at home. nop idea which track & years since i've even thought about it
Chocolate Puma - I Wanna Be You
Darude - Sandstorm
Bomfunk MCs - Freestyler
are the ones that immediately sprang to mind.....
Taking Broad's cheating and rubbing it in our faces.
and at least pick nothing
my vote is amerie
Mott the Hoople? Srsly?
Lush tune plus Orbital sampled it [Halcyon].
Of an Edward Barton song, originally sang by an 8 year old or thereabouts, written by a man that plays his guitar with a spoon....one of his albums was even called here is my spoon.
You can't make this shit up sometimes
In January 2006, Queen Elizabeth II made Runga a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Zealand New Year's Honours List
were you meant to post
Crazyhead - Time has Taken Its Toll On You
Ellis, Beggs & Howard - Big Bubbles, No Troubles
Scratch that, he's an abusive pillock.
