Still missed <3
My best musical friend. Thank you for the music sir.
Responsible for a lot of great music, of course, but in particular I think of what I consider to be the most heartbreaking song ever written:
Where did 9 years ago? And why isn't he still as revered as he should be?
There was some reaction on FB https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151152595733145
I'd guess the fact it fell on a Sunday didn't help matters.
Plus it'll be 10 years next year. I want to do the tribute event I once tried to organize. If I book a venue, will awesome bands come?
I played a set as part of an Elliott night last night in Greenwich, was packed out, all proceeds went to NSPCC and CALM. I'd absolutely love to be involved in a 10yr event if you'll have me.
It's a great idea.
they will come
Excuse the gesture, here's our homage to the guy, I think enough of him to have included Elliott to my son's middle names, so hope it's adequate:
Think the strangest thing about this and future anniversaries is that it feels like we've heard pretty much everything there was now (thanks to the excellent Grand Mal collections) and the archives must be exhausted. Of course it's not healthy to view every new found song/demo like a new release as he's still alive but there's still some things I'm sure are out there, like he was really getting into electronica when he'd got his studio set up, did he get anything down on tape? There's also a short film about him that needs some sort of proper release, forget what it's called, gah...
i did about 8 yrs ago
from 2000, so 12 years ago !
in fact, i think i found some of DiS' early contributors on that board
I also read that it was the last thing he recorded before he dies, which makes the last verse all the more devastating.
Studion 1998 is magical Elliott in his prime.
Henry Fonda 2003 is heartbreaking and beautiful Elliott in decline.
