they seem like a good bunch of guys. nice and stuff
they've written some fantastic songs.
for all the 'po-faced/boring' stuff they get, Chris Martin's a really likeable fella who can poke fun at himself
they dont put on any pretences, they know what they are and they're better for it
they just turned up at the paralympic closing ceremony and treated us to a decent set of songs we like.
yeah no point in hating on coldplay. good, talented band.
I like Parachutes
was undeniably excellent.
and well liked amongst the indie hipsters like yrselves.
Then Rush of Blood came out...way mo' even better than Parachutes, nary a weak tune and most super-duper fantastic. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't like Clocks ffs?!
Then, suddenly Coldplay weren't our little secret. OMG, the rest of the world recognized what we already knew, and then we (read: you) disowned them. Coldplay are SHITE you said again and again and again.
And now, when it's OK to like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Frank Ocean and bunch of others who make Coldplay look experimental by comparison...oh! yeah, maybe it's OK to admit Coldplay can write a great indie-esque pop song.
NO WAY, MOTHERFUCKERS! TOO LATE!!
No, I kid.
Come to Coldplay... :) ...admit you feel the love.
But yeah, they're OK in small doses.
except for the left-hand steering column...and the color...and the pretty young girl in the passenger seat.
I feel as if I deserve a little bit of the credit for helping you guys turn the corner on Coldplay...
*shakes head* I kid again!
Me is left-hand
Is a great song.
As is Yellow
As is The Scientist
As is Square One
As is Strawberry Swing
As is Lovers In Japan
As is Politik
As is Spies
As is Charlie Brown
As is Talk
X&Y has some great moments too.
after previously always thinking "yeah well they have some pretty good songs but they're a bit dull over the course of a full album". I get all nostalgic when I hear stuff from X&Y now.
But compared to most of their other albums it does have a bit more filler and bloat to it IMO.
to say everything and nothing in the same song. Lyrics that can be understood in every language, and yet not understood in any.
But now even that is difficult to listen to because of how shit Coldplay have become and how irritating they've all become with their fcking uniforms.
They have always been pretty bland and dreary? I just don't personally think 'great' is a word you could attach to them. They're okay.
boring boring boring.
drove to Chicago to see them on their first American tour because they had brought Grandaddy on as support. i suppose i shouldn't have expected much, especially in comparison to Grandaddy's unforgettable set, but they very nearly put me to sleep. we left after 3 or 4 songs, fearing they might spoil our buzz.
Which suffered because it was a bit TOO Coldplay by Numbers. Obviously they aren't wildly exerimental...but they change things between albums to keep things interesting.
Chinese Sleep Chant sounding like MBV is currently at the top of my list
still the best gig i've ever seen on the main stage* and i've been there 13 times. an indie band who could have easily become the Travis or whatever of their era deciding "right let's have this" and blowing away an entire field. just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.
*Arctic Monkeys '07 and Pulp '96 = close 2nd and 3rd!
every TV show since 2009 would apparently have had a choice of Take That or silence as background track to the triumphant life affirming moments at the end of 'journey' on a reality show.
feel like i have to remind people that they are for the most part awful.
and are a contrarian bellend.
But without Coldplay, there would never have been this
the Extras part, yeah
..so never listened to any of their albums. There may be a song on 1 of them that I like, but I'm not willing to take the chance!!!
