  • FUCK indeed!

It looks amazing to me. One of my favourite albums of all time but I just know this is going to be an expensive one. I really just want the live show. Have the original on LP. To be fair the unreleased stuff is a pretty mouth watering prospect as well.

  • that live DVD looks massive

  • Very, very exciting.

Was looking at how much people pay for the original 3xLP version of this on eBay. £550! Still won't part with mine.

  • I hope the artwork isn't reimagined too much, it really put me off the siamese dream reissue, dont mind a new slip case or something but changing the actual album cover is changing part of the album, but probably going to contradict myself completely now, I hope the tracklisting of the vinyl is changed to match the CD because that is the album I know. Either way I am definitely getting this, still one of my favourite albums and many of those b-sides are as good as their best songs

    ThingsThatFly | 3 Oct '12, 00:35 | X
    • I hated the artwork too

I thought the Gish and Siamese Dream reissues just looked shite. And I've been so far a little put off by the price for those, so I've not bothered. But this, and the Aeroplane Flies High box set when that comes out, I WANT WANT WANT!

  • You know

IF they got the 2000 lineup back together... Corgan - Chamberlin - Iha - Auf Der Maur (think D'Arcy is a lost cause) ... and did a no bullshit, straight up proper tour of stuff from this album... I think that might be my number one realistic reformation wish. Was SO disappointed when I saw them at Wembley back in 2000, just absolute pish. However, a bona fide two hour hits show of Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream stuff would be amazing, even now.

This release looks wellll cooool but I bet it is gonna be mega expensive.

    dan_thw | 3 Oct '12, 01:17 | X
    • I saw them on the Mellon Collie tour in '96

And I'd love to see a proper reunion and Mellon Collie/'hits' tour now. But Corgan would never go for it. And he'd probably call us both dicks for wishing it to happen!

      sparkysdream @dan_thw | 3 Oct '12, 01:51 | X
      • Dicks.

        Both of you.

        billycorganmynameis @sparkysdream | 3 Oct '12, 09:47 | X
        • Yeah, I think Corgan has gone on record saying he would never do a show where he played an album in full

Think it was when Gish and Siamese Dream reissues were out (or could have been that masterpieces thing with Zane Lowe). He said he didn't see the point in it.

          : (

          hanshotfirst @billycorganmynameis | 3 Oct '12, 09:59 | X
          • Lolz

The latest tour, they actually HAVE been playing Oceania in full and chucking a few "hits" on the end for good measure...! Ah well, wouldn't be our B0lly if there wasn't a good measure of self contradiction involved.

That box looks fucking awesome, the original "weird" 1979 demo, Towers of Rabble, their cover of Isolation, yes :D I do wonder if this covers the Aeroplane box as well, plenty of crossover there (pastichio medley with reversed extras!!??!).

Ahem, I was at the Brixton show (got the last return from the box office on the day, was so ecstatic I jumped up and down much to the bemusement of the box office girls), though had to leave before the end so this makes up for it big time. The version of Silverfuck on there I hope isn't cut as it's a good 20+ minute version and it's a good 'un. And I hope they left a clip of James doing the Firestarter too, he went mental and started screaming and doing the Keith dance.

This is going to cost a kidney isn't it...

            amyblue @hanshotfirst | 3 Oct '12, 10:44 | X
            • Doesn't surprise me at all

Like you say - wouldn't be Billy without the self contradiction or just general ballbagery

              hanshotfirst @amyblue | 3 Oct '12, 10:55 | X
            • There is still going to be a reissue of Aeroplane.

  • This really does look amazing

...and as everyone says, will probably cost a packet. I would guess between £40 - 50

I wasnt aware aeroplane flies high was being re-issued as well...tho maybe i just forgot about it. I do find it strange, however, that they include songs from aeroplane on here...same as what they did on the gish reissue with plume i suppose

    robellovich | 3 Oct '12, 14:40 | X
  • had a look to see if this is listed anywhere yet, amazon.co.uk has the vinyl for £140, I feared it would be in that rgion, but interestingly the amazon.com listing has it for $73 (£45ish), think it must be a mistake as the CD version is $136, I might order it just in case the price goes up

    ThingsThatFly | 26 Nov '12, 18:24 | X
    • tower records has similar prices, weird, vinyl buyers get it cheaper for once

      ThingsThatFly @ThingsThatFly | 26 Nov '12, 18:26 | X
      • Isn't the vinyl just a reissue of the original album though?

I don't think you get any of the extras. £140 for the CD version is really steep though...

        kurtrussell @ThingsThatFly | 27 Nov '12, 09:38 | X
        • oh yeah, I hadn't noticed that, the sets looked similar so I assumed they were equivalent. Suits me though as I am not that interested in extras, but the packaging looks pretty well done so I can just about justify £45 for it though that is well at the upper end of what I think is reasonable, shipping and taxes might push it too far, good thing the exchange rate is favourable at the moment.

Dont see how they can charge £140 in the uk but $73 in America, are they not aware of the internet

          ThingsThatFly @kurtrussell | 27 Nov '12, 10:55 | X
  • £140 is a stupid and greedy price

Not even in scale with the other reissues that cost about £25? I set my maximum price for this at £60 and will gladly buy it for that when they find they have a rather big surplus of stock in a year's time. The DVD is a nice to have, and there is about ten of the extra tracks that are worth it but, fuck, when did Billy become Mick Jagger?
Add to this, James Iha is playing the Bush Hall next week, tickets are £20 + ticketbastard charges... again, would be nice to go but...

    amyblue | 27 Nov '12, 09:55 | X
    • Woah, I never realised Iha was playing a show. I'd pay that for a ticket if he played Said Sadly.

Unfortunately it clashes with Mark Lanegan at The Forum and Scott Kelly at The Black Heart. Busy night for gigs that one.

      drop_b @amyblue | 27 Nov '12, 11:43 | X
  • Agree,

£140 is ridiculous. I've been checking Amazon over the last few weeks thinking it was a mistake, but no.

I got my Rage Against The Machine XX boxset yesterday: Remastered original album with bonus tracks, remastered 1991 demos, remastered album on heavyweight vinyl, 2 DVD's packed full of live/rare material, booklet, poster all in a nice 12" box. £63. A much more sensible price point.

    NeuronsLikeBrandy | 27 Nov '12, 11:27 | X
  • so Mr Corgan is in need of a retirement fund

This ladies and gentlemen is when file-sharing for free is perfectly acceptable. Watch and wait for the pdf's and flac lossless versions to go up. That'll do me.

    kostenurky | 27 Nov '12, 12:25 | X
    • The sad thing is

Billy doesn't need any more money. He could've retired 10 years ago. These prices are just pure greed.

      iaminterested @kostenurky | 27 Nov '12, 12:32 | X
    • ^this

There's legions of fans that have followed Billy for over half their lives, since the reunion the mechanics behind it have got more concerning - yes they gave pretty much an album of stuff for free (with the option to buy the vinyl with a hand carved stone thingy! wow!) but since then it's been high ticket prices, another patchy new album, reissues with lavish packaging but no real content that raises the bar past 'curiousity' (so far) and this ultimate fuck-you-and-give-me-the-cash gesture.

It's like that Super Sweet 16th show where spoiled rich brats make their friends and classmates go through "try-outs" to go to their fucking birthday party, corgan is saying 'to be a fan you need THIS much money, so you can get the box set, the vinyl, the VIP only pre-show show, the £30 hoodie, the £100 signed poster... else you're not a real fan'. There's smaller and better bands that I'd rather support.

      amyblue @kostenurky | 27 Nov '12, 12:52 | X
      • I agree that some of those prices are ridiculous, http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/store/mcis-reissue/

but find it weird that in amongst them the vinyl set is just about reasonable (not at the tripled UK price obviously), just seems odd, surely vinyl reissues are where the collectors money is at.

        ThingsThatFly @amyblue | 27 Nov '12, 13:04 | X
  • I think I was wrong up thread about the re-imagined artwork, I really disliked the siamese dream and gish reissues because it took those albums out of the nineties which seemed strange for a reissue.

This one, even though the art is new it seems to work, the original art is in part of it but expanded on

    ThingsThatFly | 27 Nov '12, 13:10 | X
  • £140 for the vinyl set? It looks mouth wateringly sweet, but at that price they are fecking MAD.

    nice_cookie | 27 Nov '12, 13:30 | X
  • So the vinyl is £160 in the UK and $75 (£46) in the US?

It looks like a fairly hefty item weight wise, but i'm assuming postage won't be as much as £114! Might see if I can order it direct from the US and get it for about £60 all in.

    BetterGayThanGuevara | 27 Nov '12, 13:30 | X
  • OH MY GOD YES.

    cocodaLOL | 27 Nov '12, 13:55 | X
  • I've looked a bit more into this. The vinyl set is available for $75 through the SP store on their website, so we are other sites charging £140?

    nice_cookie | 29 Nov '12, 14:06 | X
    • their own store and other american ones all seem to be around the same $70-80, all uk ones seem to be around £140. I know normally stuff generally costs more here, more tax and the cost of importing, but the gap here really is inexplicably huge. I can't imagine anyone paying that amount for it, surely anyone interested would shop around and soon realise they can get it alot cheaper

      ThingsThatFly @nice_cookie | 29 Nov '12, 14:57 | X
      • Well I just filled out details in the basket do see what postage would be, and in sterling it all comes to £55, so what is stopping people outside the US from just ordering directly through the SP store?!

        nice_cookie @ThingsThatFly | 29 Nov '12, 15:04 | X
        • Nothing, but you'll have to pay customs duty on top

the Sufjan xmas box direct from Asthmatic Kitty for the same reason. When I preordered it, Amazon etc. were asking for £45 and it cost £25 total to have it sent from the US. Amazon are now doing it for £35, but still...

  • The remaster is totally on the money...

it's got a little bit more bite to it and they've cleaned up the muddy low end on Jellybelly/Ode to No One etc. The dynamic range is still great too; really subtle use of compression.

(and that evaluation is based on A/B testing the remastered 16 bit WAVs against the original cd)

    Lucy_Faringold | 5 Dec '12, 10:37 | X
  • didnt realise the $75 vinyl from their site comes with a download of the album plus the three bonus discs, makes the price seem a bit less steep (really wish i'd realised this before I spent £30 on the digital version just to get the bonus tracks, the 'exclusive artwork' with the digital version is a bit of a joke, 8 tiny thumbnails of the artwork)

    ThingsThatFly | 9 Dec '12, 13:32 | X

  • I ordered my copy of this from Amazon.com

and it had some surface noise on a couple of tracks, Amazon have given me a full refund but apparently this has been an issue with the pressing

Does anyone know if the ones bought in Europe were from the same pressing or if they suffer from the same noise?

    seanneale | 9 Jan '13, 13:15 | X
    • I ordered mine from the band site, hoping it is an ok 2nd batch as there was a long delay before they sent it out but I somehow doubt it, probably too expensive to send back.

How bad is the surface noise, and on which tracks? i've read it is worst on zero which im not too fussed about, but ive also read the whole thing has unbalanced stereo

      ThingsThatFly @seanneale | 10 Jan '13, 21:40 | X
      • it's worst on Zero

but it's also on the last song of side B. I didn't notice it on C or D and didn't listen E,F,G or H becuase I knew I was sending it back already.
