I see Peter Hook is continuing to shit in the face of his own legacy
by not only crapping all over the JD discography but by performing 'movement' and 'power corruption & lies'..
Please fuck off you stupid old git.

Gwen Stefani
this week's big question;
who's a bigger dick, Peter Hook or Mike Love?
Mike Love.
it's his legacy, not yours
he can shit in its face all he likes
I'll also add that the original versions are still available
In all popular formats.
it's his legacy
but we're the ones who've connected with it in a myriad of strange, unquantifiable and completely personal ways
he certainly can
just as he can eat a plate of his own faeces. Doesn't make him a winner though.
I'd be pretty impressed if he ate a plate of his own faeces
a movement, if you will.
I think it's more that...
...he wanted to declare New Order "over" simply because he left, citing some verbal agreement from years back that their band would be finished if one member left, and then went on to perform Unknown Pleasures himself, which sort of breaks that agreement.
I reckon he's got as much right to perform that material as anyone else
We've got every right to not listen to it, but I don't see how him doing it in any way tarnishes the originals which remain brilliant (except Movement, which is a bit ropey).
^ needs to listen to movement more
I love pretty much everything New Order have done
especially the early stuff, and I've been listening to it for almost 30 years, but Movement is a flat, disappointing record given that it was preceded by one of the greatest singles of all time (Ceremony) and followed by one my favourite all time albums (Power Corruption and Lies).
I've got a soft spot for Movement
and given that Hooky sung lead vocals on a couple of the songs, and New Order rarely if ever performed them live, it makes much more sense for him to perform it than him doing the Joy Division stuff
I can't see Power, Corruption and Lies working though
a couple? so dreams never end &.....?
doubts even here!
(it's friday)
no of times new order playes stuff off movement live (apprx)
dreams never end 126
truth 60
senses 71
chosen time 71
icb 42
the him 49
doubts even here 9
denial 88
figures from here http://www.neworderonline.com/Live/LiveSongList.aspx
which hasnt been updated for a while - not that they have played any of those tracks since 2006
fair enough
although according to that, the only one they've played since 1986 is Dreams Never End
it is far from my favourite
but i wouldnt say it was disappointing - it was a band finding its feet.
strictly speaking movement came out after procession, with e.g.g released a few weeks after it
ceremony was an awesome debut & i wholeheartedly agree it is one of the finest singles of all time, but was written by joy division (as was the excellent b side)
& given the circumstances you can't have been expecting that much?
that it was followed shortly after by temptation & pc&l is testament to how quickly they developed
it is not hard to find people for whom movement is their favourite new order album
(fwiw i have low life & technique above pc&l myself with brotherhood next, then movement, republic, get ready & wftsc)
As I suspected, we don't actually differ much in where Movement stands in the ranking
My point is only that all of the early singles, even the b-sides are superb so Movement could and should be better. I've always thought they had a moment of panic about what they were doing that infected the album but not he singles (more pressure for the debut album to be a 'statement' perhaps)?
one tub of raspberry ripple, please.
Funny Peter Hook story
A fair while ago his band Monaco performed and as they walked on stage my mate heckled Hook. I can't remember what was said, but stopped on stage, turned round and said pointing at him "I didn't come here to play to cunts like like".
I think Hook's a k-nob but that's quite funny.
Cunts like like?
*Cunts like you
obviously
Cunts Like Us?
Baby we were born to pun
