Glastonbury 2013
Hello lovely people.
I'm going to try and get tickets for Glastonbury this year. I haven't been since 2007, which was the first year where you had to register but this whole deposit scheme thing is new to me and I'm not very bright so the Glastonbury website isn't making much sense to me.
The last time I went, the bun rush for tickets was in April, but now there seems to be two stages of handing over money - a £50 deposit in October, then the remaining balance in May.
Could y'all let me know if it's relatively easy to pay the deposit in October, or whether it's a hectic grab requiring much F5ing, like it used to be at the time when tickets went on sale pre-2007?
A thousand thanks.

It's...
a hectic grab requiring much F5ing, like it used to be at the time when tickets went on sale pre-2007
unfortunately
Buggery. Suspected as much.
Thanks!
It's proabably worse
because anybody in the world can afford £50
That & it wasn't on last year!
I think it was last year where I ended up having to buy tickets on the behalf of like 6 or 7 disers because once you get in you're fine but before then it's a rush of f5'ing. The good news is that you usually have a couple of hours to get them.
you sure did
thanks for that!
I've never been
but I will be having a bash at it this year
Fingers crossed I get me a ticket.
I fucking love Glastonbury festival, I do.
Stone Roses headlining
Surely.
fucksake, really hope not
To be honest Glastonbury is the ones festival that the headliners totally don't matter
sure Blur was great but I don't think I've seen any other headliner that came close to capturing the magic I found in the other areas of the festival.
yeah it's just that they'll bring a load of bellends with them...
Bellends at Glastonbury?
Can't picture that.
Ahem.
I find that because they don't farm you from arena to campsite that it's pretty easy to avoid the bellends
is there still
an appeal to glastonbury for music fans? if so, what?
erm...
...all the music they put on?
depends what music you like i guess
if you have a proper look at the line up
it's really eclectic. No other festival can boast Beyoncé, Omar Souleyman, Nicolas Jaar and Rolf Harris :)
'zactly
Well almost, there are a few more might have all of them, but only a very few
With around 20 odd music based stages
With around 600 acts playing on, a fair whack I'd say
Fans of any genre other then metal are very well catered to
this is an understatement by the way
The West Holts for example is always spot on with their line ups, I love The Park and the Dance tents and stages, you're pretty much spoilt for choice to be honest with you.
For example
West Holts 2011
Cee Lo Green
Chase and Status
Dr Jimmy Cliff
Heliocentrics with Mulatu
Little Dragon
Ghostpoet
Dengue Fever
Ziriguidum
Big Boi 22:45
Janelle Monáe
Aloe Blacc
Fool's Gold
Omar Souleyman
The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble
Nicolas Jaar LIVE
Narasirato
London Afrobeat Collective
Kool & The Gang 21:45 23:15 West Holts Sunday
Hercules and Love Affair 20:00 21:00 West Holts Sunday
The Go! Team
Duane Eddy
Bellowhead
Jah Wobble & the Nippon Dub Ensemble
Jamie Woon
Hidden Orchestra
The Park Stage 2011
Crystal Castles
Caribou
Special Guests
Big Audio Dynamite
Warpaint
Jenny & Johnny
Caitlin Rose
Dylan Le Blanc
Group Love
Narasirato
Wild Beasts
James Blake
Special Guests
Tame Impala
The Walkmen
Graham Coxon
Those Dancing Days
About Group
Balearic Folk Orchestra
Ellen & The Escapades
Gruff Rhys
Lykke Li
John Grant
The Bees
James Vincent McMorrow
Jonny
Sea of Bees
The Pierces
Troy Ellis & Hail Jamaica
And these aren't even small stages, you get far more leftfield and obscure/original stuff on the smaller stages.
+ you get the great novelty acts + a selection of once in a lifetime type bands
yeah, don't worry on the music front mate, you're covered
And those special guests were Radiohead and Pulp
You also had the likes of Queens Of The Stoneage
DJ Shadow
Eels
Beyonce
Paul Simon
Elbow
Morrissey
TV On The Radio
B.B King
Orbital
Playing elsewhere, well worth the entry fee!
is jimmy cliff an md or phd?
That was actually the worst year I've known for those two stages.
Janelle Monae, however, was the best performance of the entire weekend by any artist. Mind blowingly good.
Steeling myself as the years back after a year off are really tough as everyone wants to *do* Glastonbury
Hoping my luck holds to make my 6th
I know, I'm really worried about availability.
last time round was an absolute nightmare
preparing for the worst this time, i'm afraid.
i don't get why they don't just make it bigger
hahaha
Getting a ticket this year is going to be a complete shitstorm
the whole world and his shit is going to want a ticket, fighting through oceans and oceans of shit to get through to the other end. Shits gonna go off.
I'm up for it
You know what a shit barometer is, Bubbles? It measures the shit pressure in the air. You feel it? Listen, Bubs, hear that? The sound of the whispering winds of shit. You will, my sorry friend. when the shit barometer rises, you'll feel it too. Your ears will implode from the shit pressure....shit winds are a-comin'.
love that shit
here we go folks...
any cheeky links that help much appeciated

Looking on virtual festivals website
People got tickets from 8am... that's a bit annoying
I can get onto glastonbury.tickets.com
There it says "the site is busy, redirecting you" - it tries to go here but then fails. - http://glastonbury.seetickets.com/Event/GLASTONBURY-2013-DEPOSITS/Worthy-Farm/700000
To think people thought *this* is how Olympic tickets should have been sold...
PROPER GASH
Man this is boring...
i can't believe that this is still the best method they have
I wonder if they could build
Some sort of lottery system that rewards repeat customers but also gives some sort of priority to people who tried and failed previously.
Even just a straight lottery system would surely be better than this?
a system with at least some kind of structure would be nice
rather than a connection timeout and engaged tone over and over
Seetickets pay for the contract to sell the tickets
Seetickets don't care how much of a clusterfuck it is for buying tickets, nor do they care that the people who waited longest get tickets first. They're happy as long as the tickets get sold. To get it sorted would require Glastonbury losing a load of cash to use a different more ethical tickets company (anyone seen one of those big enough?) or make their own (for 2 sale events a year).
Fair point
Which would also explain why they don't pay for more bandwidth. Doesn't matter to them if we keep timing out, the damn thing is going to sell out whether or not they piss off a bunch of customers.
Any of you virgins had any luck?
http://glastonbury.seetickets.com/Event/AddRegistrations
really?
this worked for anyone?
no
NO....

a few people seem to have managed to get tickets
https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=264040847049243&id=19343183144
I've had this away with the faeries notion that today would somehow
be easier to get a ticket than previous years.
NAH.
i'm finding my desire to go waning really
might go on holiday somewhere nice instead
anyone vaguely technically minded
add an entry in your computer's hosts file:
194.168.202.201
for glastonbury.seetickets.com
not trolling.
Can you explain how to do this?
(I'm not technically minded)
windows: http://help.hardhathosting.com/question.php/11
mac: http://decoding.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/how-to-edit-the-hosts-file-in-mac-os-x-leopard/
or on a mac, open a terminal window
sudo vi /etc/hosts
(enter your password)
press i (for insert)
go to the bottom of the file
add the ip address
press tab
add glastonbury.seetickets.com
press escape
press colon-x
???
profit
cripes
think i may be out of my depth/ruin my mac with those instructions! thanks though
nah, you won't ruin anything
good luck!
I wouldn't trust this if I were you
What this does is, whenever you type in glastonbury.seetickets.com
it takes you to 194.168.202.201, which for all we know, isn't the right ip address, it may take you to a site which looks right, but it may be an identical one used for phishing purposes. According to a trace (http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/194.168.202.201) this IP is owned by a primary school in Manchester...
Yes, I did consider that
but seeing as I've had a confirmation email and it knew my address after typing in my registration number, I'm fairly happy that I haven't been done.
But you would say that
If it was you operating the scam
Fuck off, David Icke.
WAKE UP, WORTHY FARM SHEEPLE
command not found
thanks for your help, although I fear that I'm so technically illiterate, that turning my computer off and on is a challenge.
Don't even know my password......didn't even realise that I had one.
how do you do that?
is it explainable in another simple sentence?
just to re-iterate
i'd been not getting through for about an hour, did this and got straight through and got a ticket.
ok now you have to elaborate!
THIS WORKS
Ive no idea how but my matwe just did it and got ours. Try it.
How do you edit the host though? All I get when I open the terminal
up is file not known?
mac os or windows?
this hasn't changed anything for me
thanks anyway !
Almost had them twice but then got kicked out
this is rubbish, though hugely better than the last time I tried to get them after halloween with the biggest hangover ever.
I have to go to work in an hour so I won't be able to keep trying :(
it's almost 5 am in Toronto
been trying since 4. was it foolish to even try?
Just out of interest, which link are people using?
I was originally using the one on the glasto page, but now am using the one on the seetickets page. They have different titles in the link. The see tickets one has a reference to the deposit.
Both ultimately going to the same page, no doubt, but was just wondering like.
Well, that escalated quickly.
Ticked booked thanks to a pal using that host trick.
Got mine!
Through the regular method. Couldn't work out how to save my hosts file.
Took me from 8:45 till now of constant refreshing.
got tickets!!!
without messing with host files...think it's getting easier now
is there a confirmation email??
I'm scared to close down the success window until I see one..
It says
Your booking is now complete, and your purchase details are displayed below. We will also send you an email with these details. Please allow 24 hours for your email to arrive.
Yes, but it might take hours to arrive.
Got mine thanks to a friend... got booted out of the add registration screen twice myself.
Cool, thanks
also money still in my account, I guess that takes a while to go?
When I use my debit card to buy things online I normally have to enter a password before payment is complete - this did not happen when buing tickets - strange?
According to someone on Twitter
@jonty 9:06am
"We just discovered that the Glastonbury tickets website resolves to a) Putteridge Junior School, and b) a 192.168 address. Seetickets. What."
No idea about that, but would it explain problems we had earlier?
it would explain why the hosts trick worked, as someone must have found the correct ip
Got one!
now I just need some friends to go with :/
if it's any help
even though Chrome was refreshing faster and whatnot, Firefox had the most stable connection in the end for me
FFS
Only half the tickets had been sold 10 minutes ago
according to their Twitter account
fix
Sold out?
Gutted - just got onto the deposit page - put all reg information in
and got booted off. Anyone else had this?
Surely if you get that far youy should be held in a queue with next priority? Well unfair.
yeah... loads of my mates have
i havent got anywhere near that
entered in payment info
then told it was sold out. :(
Yeah it is sold out
Now sold out.
Tickets have sold out in 1hr 40mins, thanks to everyone for your support and we are so sorry to those who missed out.
Deposits for the 2013 festival have now sold out.
according to website
Smashed it.
The trick, it turns out, was not using chrome. Second i switched to FF i was sorted.
bad times :(
well done to everyone who got tickets!
Man, couldn't have underestimated how hard it would be to get one today
any more if I tried.
At least before you had the added bonus of time; you could plug away all day if need be - today must be an all time record sell out time period.
Well that was rubbish.
Although on the bright side, anyone who didn't get through spent a relatively short amount of time pressing refresh before not getting tickets.
Well, that sucks
Crazy how quick they went. I had thought that with so many other festivals around these days, and a year out of the public consciousness, it'd be EASIER to get tickets this year. How wrong I was... :(
Plus there has been no buzz whatsoever about it.
now we just hope they don't book a fuckload of horrendous headliners
so a bunch of total fuckwits decide they want to come and see the stone roses/coldplay/oasis/tom jones/whatever.
er
that's kinda the point of selling the tickets now instead of announcing the headliners firt
Actually it's the opposite
They sell the tickets so a bunch of fuckwits who THINK they are going to see The Rolling Stones/The Smiths/Jimi Hendrix buy tickets, and then when it's actually no one nearly as big they have to make do with what they've got.
Essentially they're selling a dream to a load of planks.
Once the line up is actually out, those types are usually a lot less interested.
I've been a little disappointed in the past, when I've eventually seen the line up.
But in all honesty it's about the experience for me, more than anything. If there's a good line up, then it's the icing on the cake.
Actually, the icing on the cake would be it staying dry all weekend..
Didn't they once nearly not sell out recently
When tickets went onsale after a disappointing line up announcement? That kind of backs up your theory.
Yeah that was the year The Verve, Kings of Leon & Jay-Z headlined
and tickets were still available on the day. That's the only time they've announced them in advance, and strangely enough they decided not to do it again.
the verve, kings of leon and jay z is a fucking appalling trio of headliners
boring boring boring. ugh. i mean good on them for breaking with the whiteboys with guitars mould and going for some hip-hop, but jay z was really fucking boring.
really?
I thought Jay Z was incredible, but then I'm a big fan
Me too, I fucking loved it
The only headliner I've ever seen on the main stage. :)
People talked with their feet that year.
The appointment of Jay Z was clearly a fox pass. Terrible decision and dreadful performance.
Kind of
There was a luke warm pick up of tickets in 2008 because 2007 was a mud bath of epic proportions, and the first year back after a fallow year seems to get loads of first timers all of whom were put off.
To try and help sales they announced the line up early and then every one started slating Jay Z who took the brunt for the other 2 lacklustre headliners in my opinion.
Then Jay Z smashed it and Glastonbury was hot property again
Yeah, exactly this
Always thought it was weird that Jay-z got all that flak, when clearly it was the tired looking Verve and the overexposed Kings of Leon that were the real problems that year…
this exactly - except sometimes, and more and more frequently recently, they've been fulfilling the expectations of the planks
when there's absolutely no need to. just book some awesome shit. no more planks.
I don't know anyone who actually cares what the headliners are, or who is on the Pyramid Stage for that matter
it could be Bieber on there for all I care. Glastonbury is so big and there is so much to do that it really doesn't matter. Its the only festival where you can be completely seperate from all of the 'planks' watching the main acts if you so wish
Me neither
That's the point. Planks who sit on the Pyramid Stage all day are sold a ticket based on the belief that all 10 of the bands in their CD collection could be playing.
Anyone who's into music/anything else will find things to do on the other 40 stages.
wtf was this today?
Looking forward to this now. Will be my first visit.
Access to Seetickets was presumably based on how much God hates you.
I went in 2013.
But there was no way I could afford to put down a deposit and afford the rest of the month.
I had a hell of a lot more fun at smaller festivals this year. Truck and 2000 Trees this year were a blast.
Time travellers, always showing off
:)
2010*
New dance village is called Silver Hayes
Nas to headline it, AlunaGeorge, Disclosure plus more confirmed for it.
glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/news/
Nas!
nice
i loved Hip Hop is Dead when it came out. could be great to see live. Might have to investigate his other records now..
shit. You need Illmatic now.
aye
my mate at work just described as one of the best records ever made (he has a fairly limited taste in music, but still). Putting it on now..
Saw him at XOYO last year
it was fantastic, no bulshit that you get at hip hop gigs. Just wall-to-wall HITS
ctrl+f 'Nastonbury'
hmmm
Well pleased with AlunaGeorge, Disclosure and Nas being added.
