Seems more immediate than Mines, maybe that's just me - I never listened to Mines much when it first came out, but have played this countless times already.
Just found it a bit average for them. Some of the songs drag on a bit and don't really do enough. I really like Capsule though. Maybe it will grow on me. I don't think Mines was instant either.
Menomena still sound great. 'Moms' possibly suffers from being a bit too intense: almost every song rises to a crazy climax and you do feel the need for a breather, but this is no disappointment... Better, indeed, than the second Ramona Falls album
easily two of the best songs I've heard all year. This album is a beautiful, cathartic beast and deserves to be massive. Fuck stupid people. Pair of genius's
to knock this out of my top 5. It's ruddy brilliant, I'd be hard pushed to pick a favourite track, but it's bristling with wonderful moments. The guitar solo on Pique, that bassline on Skintercourse, the wild guitar stabs and saxophone on Plumage, y'know, everything about every song.
If you'd have told me at the beginning of the year that the new Menomena album was going to be better than the new Ramona Falls, I don't think I'd have believed you. To me, Moms was good, but the sound of Menomena getting complacent in their sound and Ramona Falls sounded like something which had endless potential.
Yet here we are, with the new RF being a less interesting progression from the first, and Menomena sounding more vital and alive than they ever have.
I couldn't work out what I didn't like about this band
until I realised that the singer sounds exactly like the one in Kings of Leon.
which singer?
I think one of them sounds like Damon Albarn (the one who sings Queen Black Acid amoung others).
whoever's the one who does most of the singing on Mines
It's spilt evenly between three of them
The one of those three that sounds exactly like the bloke out of Kings of Leon
Honestly, I'm not trying to wind you up here
I'm genuinely interested in which one you mean because I can't hear it. Which tracks on Mines does he sing?
I'm suspecting he means Justin
though I beg to differ.
I thought the first half was disappointing.
A bit Menomena by numbers. The second half however, is great.
i must have listened to Tantalus
about ten times in a row
nice bedwetters tag btw
i like the drummers voice best
You like the drummers voice

cheers for the link
have the mp3 of that already, bit of a menomena fanboy, only band t shirt i still own
Thought this band might implode after dude left for Ramona Falls
but this record is pretty good, has its moments. Doesn't quite wow me like Mines. (Haven't really listened to it that closely yet.)
Seems more immediate than Mines, maybe that's just me - I never listened to Mines much when it first came out, but have played this countless times already.
First listen - its ok, not brilliant
Just found it a bit average for them. Some of the songs drag on a bit and don't really do enough. I really like Capsule though. Maybe it will grow on me. I don't think Mines was instant either.
Thanks for the link
I'll be listening to this all morning. A little fearful of Menomena post-Brent, but I'll hold out until I've heard the whole album
Ok, so I needn't have feared Brent's exit
Menomena still sound great. 'Moms' possibly suffers from being a bit too intense: almost every song rises to a crazy climax and you do feel the need for a breather, but this is no disappointment... Better, indeed, than the second Ramona Falls album
Friend or Foe is still my favourite by a long shot, followed by I am the fun blame monster. Great live band.
I saw them in Bristol in 2008.
One of the best gigs I've been to in the past few years.
Pique and Heavy Is As Heavy Does are....
easily two of the best songs I've heard all year. This album is a beautiful, cathartic beast and deserves to be massive. Fuck stupid people. Pair of genius's
I honestly feel the need to bump this thread
until more people listen to them.
Agreed
Why aren't Menomena bigger in the UK?
They have genuine TUNES
like the sort that make you stop and go 'what the fuck is that, it's amazing?'
Phenomenal band
Can't wait to hear this album, although I fear the lack of Brent...
Actually they bear up pretty well without Brent
although he had a softer voice which you miss occasionally.
Really looking forward to this dropping through the letter box
Mines is one of the best albums of the last few years, like what of I've heard of Moms so far
looking forward to my album and t shirt (they make good t)
arriving, hopefully dont get nasty import tax
been listening this morning
sounded great on a dramatic cycle through rain and sun w/ a backdrop of glistening semi-autumnal trees and winding wet suburbia. 'Baton' especially.
great band.
and 'Giftshoppe' is ace
really cool choppy and percussive feel with the subtley inventive synth going on.
"i was once tragically hip and beautifully fine...
now these beautiful hips are tragically wide"
Brilliant
There is going to have to be something massive out in the next three months
to knock this out of my top 5. It's ruddy brilliant, I'd be hard pushed to pick a favourite track, but it's bristling with wonderful moments. The guitar solo on Pique, that bassline on Skintercourse, the wild guitar stabs and saxophone on Plumage, y'know, everything about every song.
It's strange
If you'd have told me at the beginning of the year that the new Menomena album was going to be better than the new Ramona Falls, I don't think I'd have believed you. To me, Moms was good, but the sound of Menomena getting complacent in their sound and Ramona Falls sounded like something which had endless potential.

Touche Menomena, touche.
Absolutely agree with you here
I thought Brent would go on to do something special and Menomena would sound a bit lost. T'other way round, I think.
