just listening to Sun Kil Moon's 'Tiny Cities'...
fucking astounding record.
yeah, i'm aware some of will think other SKM albums are stronger, and that most of the ITTers will prefer Red House Painters. standard. you don't need to share that, really.
was thinking, though, have there been any other examples of when an artist has re-imagined/re-worked another artist's work (as in an album or EP, not just a single or track) and completely pissed on the original?
cheers.
David Pajos Misfits record is really really good.
I wouldn't say it "pisses over the orginal" as, well, it's Misfits! But I think it's amazing, and is so different (soft accoustic as opposed to hardcore) that it's hard to compare. But it's fucking brilliant.
The LP is Scream With Me:

This is Angel Fuck from it:

and not off the album, but probably what led him to do it was this Last Caress cover:

completely pissed on the original?
That statement is so very wrong, whilst it's nice to focus on Isaac Brocks brilliant lyrics, the originals are way more interesting/imaginative and memorable then these covers. Not to say the covers are bad, I really like them, but they don't hold a candle to the originals.
Nah.
Modest Mouse are guff, man.
Guff.

just hits you at a point doesn't it?
Most of the Modest Mouse tracks I had never heard the originals
so it was just a nice album of Sun Kil Moon songs for me. When I did hunt down the originals I was sorely disappointed, especially the title track.

great album
as you say some (though not all) are better than the actual originals. Think I read something by Kozelek saying that he didn't know if Modest Mouse had even heard the album as he had no feedback at all. Shame that.
Issac was probably drunk to be fair
