The I'm Not Going to READING, But I Am Watching it On TV thread
I am going, but I seem to remember this thread always gets started, and then people pop up and start ranting about how terrible Florence is, and how At the Drive-in have been cut from the coverage and stuff like that...
There's quite a lot being broadcast on Red Button this year by the looks of it http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01g4hcr/features/whatson

The Cure
Crystal Castles
Foo Fighters
ENJOY WATCHING PENDULUM (ON TV) AT READING
They'll show like 1 song at 2am on bbc3
One of the worst things about this festival coming around
is the annual decline in proper English that accompanies it, particularly in terms of who is 'going reading' and who is not 'going reading'.
my biggest grammar gripe
What the fuck is this
Is there a red button option
to eliminate Fearne Cotton?
So, BBC3 red button.
Watching this, I'm struggling to understand quite how Crystal Castles are so big, particularly with this kind of crowd. Don't get me wrong, I kind of like them, but essentially its just a girl shouting on top of some noisy electronic stuff, I'm just surprised at how the R&L demographic have taken to them.
agreed.
This is dire.
She cannot keep in time with her shouting at all.
infact, while i'm sure its great if you're there
Watching it on TV makes it look borderline cringeworthy
I imagine yeah, but just looks really....lifeless for some reason and tryhard.
What the fuck do I know.
The Hives are gonna be on BBC Three in about 10 mins. Should be worth a look.
I've just turned it on in an attempt to get down with the kids
band fronted by Jack Whitehall dressed as a Texan. Sounds awful.
Spector seem like a band I would have loved when I was 15
The Hives look fun
Though perhaps a little old these days
YEEEEEEEEEEAHHHHH
Man, The Hives are awesome huh
I'm watching it while sat in my room *in* Reading.
Walking back from the station earlier you wouldn't have even KNOWN it was festival time. Felt very weird, not been like that before.
It was strangely quiet in Reading yesterday.
The Hives freeze is never not awesome.
aargh fuck off woman
oh my god KILL ME
srsly, who is this bint? WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT TOP TIPS?
I muted that and put The Hives on REALLY LOUD \m/
is coverage always this bad?
CUT THE CRAP AND BRING THE MUSIC CUNTS
I went to uni with her
she was properly annoying then, and has only got worse from there it seems
She had a White Pony tattoo tbf to her
You Me At Sucks
(I'll leave now)
LOVING HIS WAISTCOAT
(not)
dear christ its awful.
thank fuck only one song from them.
Please, play some music
some good music.
Put The Hives back on.
Show some of the lock up tent.
ANYTHING
haha
well, you chose to watch Reading (or Leeds, whatever). I'm not going to get caught doing that again, I want a peaceful Friday evening chilling, listening to music, sipping wine, not ranting at the TV.
Switch off!
do hipsters still dress like that?
who the fuck are spector, anyway?
I don't actually mind the song
but they look like they all jumped into a bin full of charity shop clothes blindfolded and had to wear what they could put on.
Bombay were good, ey
Cure time!
Looks to me like they're going to show the entire set too
They better show lots of Mastodon on Saturday.
The Cure - excellent!
Just watched a bit of You Me At - man they were terrible...
Hang on, are they playing Wish in full then?
ok then, evidently not
this is great
helped by a lack of crowd shots
nope
The Cure are definitely one of those bands helped by smoke machines and lights
Really adds to the atmosphere. (I'm probably posting in this thread too much)
who's the kentucky fried chicken guy with a black flag tattoo?
Inbetween Days & Just Like Heaven
If there's a better one-two at Reading this entire this weekend I'd be very surprised.
and pictures of you after!
straight into lullaby.
fuck me.
oooh
proper festival set
Wow!
I'll be hitting the red button tomorrow then.
Robert Smith's voice is EXACTLY the same as it is on record
even records that were recorded 20 years ago wtf
They're in the form of their lives
I saw them in Holland in May and they were fantastic - exceeded all expectations. Hope they keep touring and play some headline shows in the UK in the winter - I really want to see them again.
When did Porl get the boot?
:(
aww look
i fucking love the cure
This is pretty much a non stop hit-fest
They just keep bringing it!
:O
They took The Cure off air!?!?
Ah well, Graham Coxon is making an almighty racket on the red button.
Eastenders
great
is this just on the red button now?
nah, the cure are back on bbc3
Passion Pit just started on red button.
If anyone's interested.
When did this new 'standing on two peoples shoulders' thing start?
It's really going to get in the way of my giant irrelevant flag waving....
I don't know
But I was hoping for that girl to fall earlier.
Crusties have been doing it for years
Possibly American punks too
I assume others are watching this right
I think this is the best festival set I have ever seen on TV.
I'm watching it.
I've never really listened to them before but this is brilliant.
What a brilliant set
The Cure really know how to headline!
What's up with crowds chanting for the one song they know...
Case(s) in point:
Passion pit - Sleepyhead
Foster the People - Pumped up Kicks
my word
that alt j noise is a load of shite
Woeful live band.
Unfortunately saw them at Green Man last weekend
They are truly terrible. Oh god, it's bringing back memories.
I saw them in Liverpool at Sound City and left after 2 songs.
UTTER GUFF
brilliant album, though.
you'd have to be pretty uptight to deny that.
thought it was alright, bit dull probably.
haven't heard it
Pal
nice to see BBC3 not going for Annoying Wacky Yoof Presenter again.
also, fuck Greenday.
The dude bloody loves shouting instructions
looks like there's about 400 people watching green day
i thought they were still big with the kids like
shins on red button
mercer looks quite old
Vaccines and Florence on BBC3
I quite like the Vaccines on record but I can imagine them being terrible live.
you imagined correctly! ;-)
anyone see the jake bugg acoustic track earlier?
i see he's been selling out a few of his headline dates since being announced as support for noel gallagher
Not surprising, given the haircut
http://www.nme.com/news/jake-bugg/65483
FloMo killed it, man.
Amazing artist.
You'd have to not like music to not agree, really.
Agreed
She is 100% a headliner. Excellent performance. My only slight quibble is that a few times she seemed to be shouting some of the songs rather than singing them. But considering how much running around she was doing, that's probably fair enough.
Fucking awful singer
Seriously the nation is under some kind of collective spell - I can't explain how so many people interpret her wailing banshee noises as melody otherwise
Looks like they're showing a fair amount of mastodon on the red button
Kasabian have been quite underwhelming
Even by Kasabian's standards.
Yeah kinda agree.
I'd definitely have seen ATD-I if i'd not sold my ticket.
The Cribs have gone from quite a clean, tight, mainstream indie band
To full on noise rock in the space of one album. Saw them at Leeds 2010 and they were nowhere near as shambolic.
jesus christ
theyve just smashed up the stage
What a waste of a good fucking drum kit!
Not like no one's ever done it before...
NO!
And they're actually showing some ATDI on BBC3
Pattern Against User!
Complete with a guy boiling a kettle
Where's Omar?!?!?!
i cant quite tell whether he's cut his hair and worn a hat and glasses
or if thats just a guitar tech
Kettle technician
omg I didn't notice him in the hat and coat. Amazing.
He looks so bored.
WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY
AREN'T THEY SHOWING MORE
they're not even on the sodding red button :(
I've been to the Leeds festival this weekend
I live near by so have the pleasure of a soft bed and a shower. The Cure were incredible best band of the weekend by a mile. The Foo fighters on the other hand were dreadful. Every song extended with an over long jam and guitar solo or drum solo. Every thing Grohl took the piss out of in those old Nirvana interviews.
Dave Grohl isn't 23 anymore!?
Scandalous.
that's completely irrelevant
Two Door aren't bad by the looks of it.
I quite like the song too.
can someone PLEASE tell me what a two door cinema club is?
apparently
http://static.nme.com/images/article/TwoDoorCinemaClubBeacon600PR200612.jpg
no, that's a pair of legs and an arse
DIS favourites Dingus Khan were just on the red button. There were some robes or something.
The sound for Foo's is awful, horribly muddy, might just be what the camera mics are picking up, but still
And is it me or does Grohl sound like he's lost his voice a little bit?
Nah sounds good.
He's just over-egging it a bit.
its better now.
But during White Limo my gosh it sounded bad,
Probably need another guitarist
the foo fighters are like a parody of a stadium rock band now
pretty terrible.
So what?
They have a ridiculous amount of very good songs.
They're pretty much the perfect reading headliner tbh.
Huge amount of megahits that 90% of everybody knows, ideal for both the demographic and style of the faetival, vast array of material, been doing this for so long now they cant just plug in and bring it really, but are still an ongoing concern and in their field are very much still relevant (yeah someones going to disagree, but fuck it).
I can't really put my finger on it
it just seems like they're doing an impression of ac/dc or something rather than just playing.
just seems really forced I guess.
He's maybe overdoing it a bit
given it's Reading and what that means to him but sounding great to me. How many bands this weekend have this absurd catalogue of songs?
yeah considering they're 40 minutes into their set
And every song bar the opener was a charting single.
Grohl is fucking nailing this.
who's the pic of on taylors drum skin?
Neil Armstrong
<3
Cheers for a minute I thought it was steve jobs!!!
Saw some red button coverage of something called Seaasfire
but they don't seem to exist on Google.
It's just Seasfire
Chuckling at Fat Pat Smear
Incredible to think he was in the band who wrote this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08MqYvU-yuM
Typical. They play I'll Stick Around. Arguably the best Foo fighters song and everyone nods blankly.
The kids at the front look no older than 20 so fair enough really.
That sounded fucking incredible though. Wow.
Fearne Cotton, fuck off.
I don't care what twitter thinks.
These two sentences are always appropriate
Oh man
The ATD-i performance (or at least, One Armed Scissor) has made me pretty anxious about the Tuesday gig. They all look really bored, and instead of any higher or shoutier bits, Cedric does some sort of baby muppet voice instead of even trying.
Quick question
Anyone know which Foos song is being shown right now?
oh, Generator
never mind.
I fucking love Hey, Johnny Park!
Alone and Easy Target, fuck yes
alone and easy target
:')
Wattershed and For All The Cows next please :)
Just seen the full setlist
You're in for a treat ;)
Crazy shit!
THIS IS A CALL TO ALL MYYYYY PAST RESIGNATIONS
Special.
Who doesn't love Dave Grohl?
Glad the Dave solo bit is now used for Times Like These
Rather than Everlong. Everlong needs to be full band.
Fucking Winnebago!
WINNEBAGO
:''''''''''''''''')
MY WORD
AND WATTERSHED
:D
Taylor Hawkins is having such a great time. :D
WAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTEEEERSHEEEEED!
Loving this so much.
\m/
Shit! I predicted it up there! ^^^
Predict Good Grief, Weenie Beanie and the rest of the first album please. :D
Ha ha!
Exhausted. Just wow.
They've played like over half of the debut, right? Fucking incredible.
IF ANYTHING'LL EVER FEEL THIS GOOD FOREVER!
If you go to 301 you can see All Time Low ruin Dammit
Is this kind of Fall Out Boy-esque whiny emo-pop still popular?
I thought that died out years ago.
Kids love this shit.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Fern Cotton and a guy who referred to Robert Smith as "that guy".
Greg James?
After their set on Friday night he commented that Robert Smith bore resemblance to the Robert Smith of 1979. OF COURSE HE DOES. IT'S THE SAME PERSON.
demolition job, that
too good
