Best albums, best songs, maybe throw a couple of cheeky youtube links in there. Cheers!
But really, they've been blinding ever since their debut.
Sounds great. I always assumed they were a pastoral folk band for some reason and gave them a deservedly wide birth.
Seriously, if you ever get the chance, go. The Meadowlands is one of my favourite albums of all time.
Everyone I know who's seen them says they're one of the best live bands they've ever seen.
Unfortunately they haven't played live (over here at any rate) in years.
Their new album will be released any day now!!!!!*
*possibly at some point within the next 34 years.
I posted something on their boards or something after I fell in love with The Meadowlands, enquiring about how I could get hold of previous releases (never heard anything at the time other than Meadowlands). They were having major record label issues then, so you couldn't buy anything anywhere for love nor money. Greg from the band got into contact with me and personally packaged up their entire back catalogue on CD, hand wrote a note and the parcel, and posted it to me from America.
They gave me their back catalogue and a t-shirt at a show as well after I had a chat with them about the area of NJ they're from.
Meadowlands is my favourite ever album, for a lot of sentimental reasons as well as it being a legit 10/10 work of brilliance. Their backstory really adds to the enjoyment of the record for me and as everyone has said, one of the best live acts on the planet.
And here's a great video of them performing at a fans house using his instruments and cereal for percussion (it's a lot less nauseating than that sounds)
There's like 4 choruses back to back. I think I'm offically now a fan and on the way to digging up rarities!
Definitely my most played ever
like to think I'd do this too if I was in a well known indie rock band
The 2006 gig is my no. 1 gig of all time. The support finished, so popped off to get a pint, but didn't have time. They literally strolled straight on and started belting it out. No fannying around with roadies and sound guys checking stuff over and tuning guitars and shit. The sound and energy was truly incredible. I found myself stood in the crowd next to Dave Stewart; he is one cool dude. I will go to every UK gig, wherever and whenever they are, if they ever come back.
Best show I've ever been to.
good grief was that last one really 5 years ago?!
they're VERY Jimmy Eat World aren't they
I can hear it, they are way better though, and as jimmy eat world dont have quite the same negative connotations of other that era emo bands and wrens started before them
The Middle just got overplayed to shit.
Sorry I automatically assumed a JEW comparison was meant as a negative, I've got nothing against them they're a good band. Still think wrens are better and had at least one classic in the bag before meadowlands
I meant there JEW don't have the same negative connotations as other emo bands, as I thought your comparison was meant as a criticism
JEW also had a classic before Clarity though ;)
this comparison is going too far though. All I'm saying is my first reaction to listening to them is that it was very similar to early (re: good) Jimmy Eat World.
Never thought I'd be turned from complete indifference to loving a band in such a short space of time. Guess that's why DiS is awesome - thanks everyone!
the JEW comparison is apt, since this is emo-tinged indie rock gold, just made by guys in their thirties who've LIVED.
and I trust your opinions, any more like this?
and I'm already converted! Unbelievable band! 'Happy' is a firm favourite so far!
How I've never heard this band before is utter madness.
A classic in my eyes already, I am excited about delving into their other releases.
I love this bio
