Jessie Ware
The middle section may lean a little too heavily on balladry, but if you're looking for 2012's most sophisticated pop star, you may just have found her.

@ The Fly (UK)
This debut's sophistication might mean Jessie slinks to the forefront rather than shoving her way to the top, but however long it takes, Devotion marks a new chapter in this future-pop superstar's journey.
@ Pitchfork
Devotion marries her natural gift with throbbing instrumentation that breathes life into every single turn of phrase or sensitive vocal embellishment.
@ Beats Per Minute (formerly One Thirty BPM)
While nearly everything else is still top tier pop music, but the Englishwoman leaves herself some room to grow. For now, Devotion is one the year's most promising debuts.
lots of positive reviews
@DiS
Ware could quite easily have served us up with ‘Dubstep Cuttings, Female Vocal, Volume 564’ but she was smarter than that, and, importantly, she was more honest than that and instead supplied a solid album of strong, emotive pop music that is currently in very real danger of usurping Whitney Houston’s 1987 long-player as the go-to musical comfort blanket of choice, in times of need.

Some kind of
instant modern classic
I might have to listen harder
just sounded like an average Radio 1 pop song to me.
What is it with hipster sites trying to champion the next worldwide, mega, pop vocalist? I think an artist who gets compared to Whitney Houston, Sade etc... comes from the masses buying the record, not hype and positive reviews. Adele will be remembered from this generation because she sold loads. Whitney and Sade are remembered because they sold loads. If Jesse Ware goes onto sell nothing no-one will remember these types of comparisons.
Sorry, a ramble. I just think this kind of praise for essentially a pop artist is odd. If she's sold billions of records and playing 20 nights at the O2 next year, will DiS and Pitchfork still be covering her?
Well, she was one of my three picks for the BBC Sound of poll this year. She didn't make the longlist.
She was one of mine, too.
liked thd singles
will have to try this
it's flat to me
i like a couple of the singles but i'm not getting into it as much as i'd anticipated. i think it might be her voice, something about it irritates me in a subtle way.
seanstep
true and simple sean baiting indiestep so borin, its like Young Turks do dubstep 101 lol. Yet her voice has been wicked, she sounded like she was going in the right direction with Numbers, you know nice and bumpy, loads of energy loads of hooks... but just like Katie B who went from slinky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRCV9ktiBOk) to clunky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1Ynf2ScKiA) in a single or two... its all gone a bit snoozie seanstep. All hopes on Ruby Lee Ryder then hey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6kVu3t9iX8 / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZotuKB6BhcY she's prob next.
seanstep > sigh-fi
listening to the record now
and totally agree - they've gone for the Florence market via soulpop FM radio - such a waste of a great voice
Kid Harpoon to blame I guess
Just watched "Wildest Moments" music video
Conclusion: great vocals, nice song, nice girl.
I will check her album.
That song and video
Perfection
Started listening to this today.
It's an impressive listen so far - really like the influences and the oh so cool feel throughout. So far, any real judgement would be premature.
This fits the 'adult pop' hole that New Look's s/t album chiseled out for me last year. It's in no way the same sound but it's got that laid back sensuality and an easy going and effortless coolness.
it's a real shame that New Look album got nowhere near as much attention.
I really like her album
What a nice voice...
That's a lovely lovely voice
This album definatly has the air of 'instant classic' about it
pretty much every song is incredibly strong and it maintains a very consistent vibe without ever getting dull. She has a very strong voice, the production is great, it has a very broad appeal & it has 'Running' & 'Wildest Moments' which are 2 bona fide singles
Really liked 110%, everything else has sounded fairly dull though
Couldn't believe how boring Running was after hearing the Disclosure remix first. That should just be the standard version from now on.
Will give the album a listen later anyway, more than willing to be wrong on this one.
Not on Spotify yet
I'm intrigued...
Wait until about 7pm
it usually takes all day for stuff to appear on Spotify
I saw her at Parklife festival
There was a bit of hype about her but I thought she was pretty unremarkable.
'Bonus track 'Strangest Feeling' is a gem.
A real wonder why it isn't on the album 'cause it's a stand out on the deluxe version.
MASSIVELY disappointed with this record
so much stodge on it
there's a decent EP in there though;
Wildest Moments
110%
Strangest feeling
+ Disclosure remix of running
that's a GOOD EP
I'm a busy man
and don't have time to digest a whole album.
Would you kindly direct me to the three best Jessie Ware tracks? Thanks in advance.
Having now read the thread properly
I'm guessing I should go with Wildest Moments for starters.
3
Wildest Moments
Running
110%
You forgot 'Something Inside'
I forgot something inside your mum
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Was it your likeable personality?
cock
Luv you really babes
you're Dwight Yorke to my Andy Cole <3
<3
That's pretty much the sexiest thing anyone's ever said to me.
You're one of my favourite DiSers
Why does everyone want to fight me today :'(
By the way

WOO!
So I'm some way through my first listen...
It's not all that different to the Class Actress album from last year, and an equally mixed bag. Her voice is very easy on the ear, and the production is slick, but nothing comes close to matching 'Wildest Moments' in the songwriting stakes. Pretty dull in places, unfortunately.
saw her at Beacons this weekend
you could see her boobs. I guess thats why it is adult-pop
EVERYONE GET OVER THE 80S.
FFS.
Frankly, no.
I'm sort of glad it's still influencing culture now because the 60s and 70s were doing the same for long enough and I'm genuinely in love with everything 80s in a way that I am not for those decades.
Counting down the days when the 90s/ealry 00s come back into fashion
Bustin out my baggy jeans, dog chain and black limp bizkit hoodie. Standard.
Give it 20 years.

Ah! JUST GREAT POP!
Seriously, I had to work that one out.
*good
It's a bit boring...
