Where to start with... Liars?
So I've seen this band mentioned a fair bit in regards to a supposedly cracking new album, and I've heard them touted around before as well. The Wikipedia tags (Experimental rock, dance-punk, post-punk revival, noise rock, art punk) sound extremely promising, as do the album titles themselves.
But being a traditionalist who doesn't want to download a swathe of stuff to wade through, could you possibly suggest an album of theirs to fall in love with, and maybe give me a brief description of what I can expect?
Thank you kindly.

Gwen Stefani
Start at the beginning and work your way through
Drums Not Dead is considered their best work but my favorite is They Were Wrong So We Drowned.
You are lucky to be able to hear them for the first time.
Chronological fo sho.
Their narrative/progression is part of the deal.
Failing that, if you can get hold of this, do, cos it's damn good:

I think I got Drums not Dead first
but really it doesn't make a difference, each has it's own merits. as long as you don't get Sisterworld first
I agree
Not that either of the are bad records. Just not so indicative of their scope and not a great intro to the band.
How did you get on with this?
I downloaded Drum's Not Dead
a couple of years ago, got quite into that. It's a bit impenetrable at first though... which is probably why I don't listen to it often nor have any of their other albums. Still, you might like it more than I.
Try the new one then
i actually think the s/t is quite a good place to start
with dnd and wixiw being their best (imo)
I bought They Threw Us in a Trench this weekend, based on not hearing anything but this thread saying go chronological.
Will report back when I've actually listened to it.
This Dust Makes That Mud
Is the ultimate in droning repetitive guitar dirge.
And I love it so so much
Fix.
All their albums are quite impeccable
Sisterworld and They were wrong so we drowned being the finest.
where to start with liars?
well i wouldn't trust them for a start.
Everything
Self-titled is the 'worst' for being a tad too straightforward, and I'm not convinced about the direction they've taken with the latest.
Drum's Not Dead is my personal fave, They Were Wrong is the least accessible, but also utterly brilliant in its own zero-out-of-ten way, and Sisterworld starts with probably their best individual track.
Self-titled has the most CHOONS
which nobody ever seems to mention
you basically
need to listen to ALL of their albums. they're all pretty essential, and all quite amazing in their own way.
I never really got into Drums Not Dead
but I bloody love the new one.
get the reissue
JUST PLEASE GIVE IT ONE MORE CHANCE! it's a difficult record, but i really think it's one of the greatest albums ive ever heard
I'd say don't bother with anything.
Loads of better bands to get your teeth into!!
