I'm going to the one on Monday
Sucks to be everyone who isn't.
(Unless you're going to one of the other dates obvs.)
Hmm, pissed to be missing these shows
Only info I can find is that she played Pearly Dewdrops Drops and Song to the siren and that she had backing singers. Any info appreciated, I'm out of the country otherwise of course I'd be there!
A friend of mine went last night, his missus nabbed the setlist.

Oh Cherry Coloured Funk!
Still, I don't regret not getting tickets as I think the whole thing is a bit weird. She won't play shows with the Cocteau Twins, but is happy to sing their songs?
It would be weird hearing these songs without Robin Guthrie, basically.
Frou Frou Foxes!
Last track off Heaven or Las Vegas, she'd better play this on Tuesday night. Jesus fucking Christ.
well she wanted to do the shows but Robin threw a wobbler.
they had a row about money.
Oomingmak!
wasnt there but this 'comeback' looks very interesting
as her band appears to be all ex-Spiritualized / Lupine Howl members...
The keyboard player was apparently Thighpaulsandra
Who I've heard of but I don't know why.
Thighpaulsandra
He's played in both Coil and Spiritualized. And does solo stuff.
& also with cope
but he's there through the spiritualized connection
his outfit was amazingly eno
thought the backing singers saved it myself, they seemed to be doing the harder to reach notes
also, worst version of song to the siren ever, wish she'd left it alone tbh
To those who went to Monday's gig: was there a TV in the foyer at
The RFH? I really want to watch a bit of the athletics before I go in for Tuesdays Elizabeth Fraser gig.
there's a big screen in the foyer of the Queen Elizabeth Hall fwiw
Stick with the TV
That was a pretty poor show I'm afraid ... Sorry to be the voice of gloom but I felt it was really very flat indeed. Shocking backing at times.
Was there a TV though?
Possibly
I think I saw a screen in the RFH the other day but wasn't looking last night. But if not there's a big screen in the foyer of the Queen Elizabeth Hall next door and quite a crowd watching.
Thanks for the information. I appreciate that.
someone on I Love Music (ILX) forum said the same thing
a huge fan and he HATED it :/
not good news.
has to be said i got a bit 'emo'
watching this :')

Now my stock has dropped
"Yeah, 'course I've seen the Cocteau Twins" suddenly doesn't have the same cache. -50 indie points to me *shrugs*
Still, lucky you guys. :)
It was great to hear her sing....
....but as above, the band...or more specifically the guitar player needed a kick in the nads.
I think it would be best to just have her sing to you in a quiet room
that would be one of the best things of all in life.
or just listen to her singing to herself in a room
I *loved* this show :P
wasn't sure what to expect but I didn't think it would feature about 50% reworked Cocteau Twins material, played and sung beautifully and with great care and passion, the second song was "Blue Bell Knoll" (one of my all time faves), "Ooming Mak", "Pearly Dew Drops Drops" and then "Song for the Siren" in the end, etc. In the rear stalls everything sounded absolutely amazing to my ears. Did I go to the same gig? :) I'm really happy she managed to find people to do this with her on her own terms, and I'm just really happy to hear her sing again. The new stuff sounded brilliant too and I hope it comes out in some form soon... the backing singers finally made it possible to present Cocteaus songs as they were recorded with the multitracked voices. As a fan I just don't see how you can be disappointed with what I saw last night...:P
I feel really bad saying it...
but I found last night's show really bland. I almost fell asleep (it was quite nice dreaming music I suppose but that's not what I came for). Perhaps it was the mixing, the venue or the MOR backing band but all of the power, melody and rhythm of the Cocteau Twins material and the depth of everything else (from the This Mortal Coil stuff to Massive Attack) was missing.
You could hardly tell when the backing singers were singing and when it was her and her parts felt like karaoke at points. Some of the more stripped down tracks really worked but it mostly just blended into one long track. Everyone seems obsessed with how "ethereal" it was but that's not why I like her, I like her because she spells out every syllable however nonsensical it is and is always front and centre regardless of the noisy backing. She still has a stunning voice but seemed drowned out or afraid to use it.
Perhaps I was just in the wrong mood or expecting something completely different of her (perhaps she's always been like this and Cocteau Twins performances weren't the blast of excitement I imagined they'd be). The fact that she hardly acknowledged the existence of the audience didn't help either. Whatever the reason, maybe it's not her fault, I didn't really enjoy last night although I was expecting to.
I thought bits of it were beautiful
i've played the youtube clip of Song to the Siren from last night over and over again this morning and i loved Domino. Agree with the comments on overbearing drums and MOR-y backing at times, but all in all I'm so glad I went, waited 27 years to hear SOS live.
Her voice is so extraordinary and her back catalogue so amazing...I just want her to do my own personal set list. Which I'm going to make now instead of working :)
donimo
not domino
but can see why you'd type domino
Oh. Sorry. A request for more information: what time did she go on
stage?
About 8:50
There was a short set from a choir beforehand.
I saw a lot of negative reviews here and had low expectations for
last nights gig. I really enjoyed it. Who else went? Anyone go to both nights? How did they compare?
I think Liz's vocals were a lot clearer last night
but it's also possible I focussed on that more after reading all the comments :) to me the sound was good on both nights but it did feel a bit different last night, you could definitely hear Liz very clearly on each song to the point that it kinda overpowered everything else but I guess that's what most people wanted? Glad I went both nights, it was sooo special to me and quite a few others I talked to, and hope that solo album comes out soon and maybe a few more dates? It felt more like the beginning of something...
Oh. The keyboard player looked odd. The only people that look
similar are Richard O'Brien or an evil character from a computer game.
totally! amazing arm pad things under his sparkly jumper
i loved the contrast between him and the guitarist on the left. keys from rocky horror, guitar from corrie.
