New Order
Garbage
Animal Collective
Brothersport
Brotherhood?
Album: Power Corruption and Lies (by a short head from Technique)
Single: Temptation, followed by The Perfect Kiss, Blue Monday, True Faith, Everything's Gone Green
amazingly similar
temptation, everythings gone green, blue monday, ceremony, true faith and crystal
For some reason I forgot about Ceremony
one of my top 5 singles of all time by anyone and should have been my number one. We like the same ones because we're both old.
Album: Technique
Single: Regret
There is no quick answer
I've been brooding over this question for years.
Album: Technique
Single: Bizarre Love Triangle (Perfect Kiss a close second)
At the moment
mm, probably Technique, and Regret (that fuckig coda is absolutely magical)
Album: Technique
Single: True Faith
Favorite album would be Power, Corruption & Lies
But my favorite single has always been Round & Round because Best and Marsh is an awesome b-side.
I didn't hear that B-side so far. Must check it.
Blue Monday
Low Life.
Regret
Is objectively the correct answer for best single.
Yes
In a parallel world where Bizarre Love Triangle never existed.
Album: Power Corruption & Lies
Single: Ceremony
This is a very good call.
It the thinking persons answer and they are both fantastic, important records. I can't get away from thinking that Blue Monday is the bands true masterpiece though. Also when Low Life came out it was like, Wow!
Just like the Dead Kennedys...
... peaked with In God We Trust, New Order peaked between PCAL and Low Life. Low Life is a better album but PCAL had a moodier feel that would have benefitted Low Life even more.
Snap.
PCL wins by a nose ahead of Technique for me, and Ceremony is my favourite song of all time.
I reckon you're bang on.
This is correct
Low Life
Bizarre Love Triangle
Technique by a short head from Low Life at the moment
As I only recently bought a new copy to replace my worn out cassette and it's been getting some serious play.
Single has to be Temptation.
They are all great (albums)
...up to and including Technique. Then, forget it.
Technique
The Perfect Kiss
Agree with midnightpunk but there are a few post-Technique gems, such as Regret, Ruined in a Day, Crystal, Turn My Way, WFTSC and Turn.
Can I pick Substance, or is that cheating?
Ceremony.
That's an Alan Partridge answer right there
Substance not allowed
Only classic studio albums
Don't cut your nose off to spite your (silent) face
New Order have always been a singles band. Witness the fact that their (arguably) greatest single, Blue Monday, never appeared on its parent 'classic studio album'.
Substance is 'objectively' their best album by some considerable distance - firstly by virtue of its unparalleled track listing which, entirely by accident, manages to document the evolution of a certain kind of dance music throughout the 1980s and secondly by obstinately insisting on including not only the 12" mix of every song but also a second disc of variously strange and delightful B-sides - both incredibly New Order'esque things to do.
On top of that, you have the fact that almost all of their albums fall into one of the 'flawed', 'must try harder' or 'couldn't be arsed' categories. Even Technique, their most consistent long-player, falls down in including Finetime which is possibly their weakest ever single.
Technique
Regret
Album: Power Corruption & Lies
Single: Temptation
(Almost went for Ceremony)
I've also always been massively obsessed with Mesh off of Substance
Low Life
Temptation
Low Life
Procession
I would just like to say that New order have one moment of definitive genius
It is called 'Ceremony'. It was written whilst they were called 'Joy Division'.
And, no I'm not a Joy Division nut.
What about Blue Monday? That song was (and still is) seminal for music in general.
it's very good
I'm going to stick my head above the trenches and say that it's a wee bit overrated.
Good god this is hard
Your Silent Face is my favourite New Order song.
Temptation is the greatest sing-a-long disco tune ever.
Regret is the best pop song ever.
Blue Monday is Blue Monday, still one of the most incredible moments ever put to vinyl.
Ceremony is kind of a remix of a Joy Division song, no?
Choice between Power Corruption Lies and Technique? Just about prefer the songs on PCL but the production and pioneering feel of Technique just about tips it. Without Technique my life would have taken a different route musically.
Very good comment
Your Silent Face is fantastic.
this to 'your silent face'
best delivery of a line ever
Have to confess: New Order are more of a singles band, as far as I'm concerned
Low Life:
Confusion:
one of the best bands in the world........
Album - Low Life
Single - The Perfect Kiss
Low Life
Dream Attack. Tough choice though!
P, C & L
