sorry, i know, but it's great. almost as good as 'call me maybe'
isn't really something to brag about is it. "I've got the moves of a 70-year old man who looks like Miss Jones out of Rising Damp these days." Well, whatever turns you on.
Teenage Dream > Call Me Maybe > Moves Like Jagger, of course
Up there with the opening 20 seconds or so of that song that goes "i came to dance, dance, dance, I'm wearing all my favourite BRANDS, brands, brands, brands..." for making me feel happy and dance-y. x
you don't think that's amazing? how that can even be a song is amazing and brilliant
teenage dream is brilliant. not as good as the one that got away though
Can't understand why it wasn't FUCKING MASSIVE because it's totally amazing
not quite, but it was close
because TGIF > badmanreturns
seriously though, it's an abomination of a song.
that one with the whistling is, whoever the fuck it's by
blow my whistle is what it's called it's by flo rida
Katy Perry puts out lots of shite but when she's good, she's great pop
My 5-year-old daughter. This is neither a compliment or a criticism. Per se.
I remember when DiS had decent people and its elite was just a pipe dream.
I remember when DiS had decent people and its elite was just a pipe dream.
Moves like Jagger is v infectious. I don't really love it but that's more to do with never really liking Adam Levines voice.
Call Me Maybe has a lot more 'syncopation' (is that the right word?) in the timings and it has the string stabs. Small string hooks over anthemic choruses always makes them amazing, c.f. Toxic.
how self important can one person be?
One would hope anyway.
<3 minaj as well
no-one legitimately likes Katy Perry or Maroon 5 unless they're 12
so why refuse to enjoy it ?
I do. I'm 23.
Katy Perry IS brilliant
i don't mind either, well not enough to actively hate them anyway
Stop reading into something and try to justify your snobbishness.
this actually opens up a whole other can of worms. the only reason people really like anything is because of how it projects an image of them or makes them feel about themself. the vast majority of the time it's subconcious but if it's a concious choice, so what?
this is a whole thing that nobody ever agrees with me on but i don't want to say that as if i'm making some sort of big deal accusation, i'm not.
why does it have to be ironic for me to be allowed to enjoy it? am i ACTUALLY going to start to justify myself here? i don't know.
Call Me Maybe is alright but luckily I don't listen to the radio EVER so I've only heard it a few times.
but it sort of marks the beginning of the end of nickelodeon's reign as the king of animation
i quite clearly don't listen solely to pop music (i know you're not accusing me of that either). i think there is a small part of my enjoyment of it which is a kick back against how snobby some people can be when it comes to music (or any art). when it comes to live music i would (probably) never go and see a pop band, maybe one or two, idk. some of the most fun i had in recent years was running a club night where we would get local bands to play and then spend the rest of the night djing motown, hip hop, dead recent pop music, punk, whatever we wanted really. it was entirely unpretentious. people just wanted to dance and the music we played help to facilitate that.
one question i have is, other than the intent of the producer (which is an arguable point anyway) what is the difference between the most successful motown hits of yester-year and the most succesful pop hits of the last decade (or so)
but can't be getting down with Maroon 5, or much KP tbh.
Still find it weird that people would take offence to others liking either though.
(haven't clicked links)
TAKEN IT'S TOLL
TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE
cat_races jump in sharky and george mo mince
see you in an hour!
first thing i would like to say is that i do feel a bit grotty trying to justify it but we'll go with it.
the thing is, i don't really have a criteria, i find that a little absurd. i'm much more likely to proclaim myself a fan of a song than one particular artist/singer/band until they've had a fairly consistent run of songs that i like. that holds true with 'real bands' as well though. i find that whole thing about "ha you like music targeted at 12 year old girls" absolutely hysterical. i'm pretty sure wu-tang isn't targeted at most people on here but I know they will get a lot more love. and abba. abba were just a hits machine. it just happens that they were performing them as well. it's no different.
i think what i'm trying to say is that i don't really care about the intent behind a song (thus my question earlier) and i'm not really too concerned who is performing it either. as far as 1D go, i would actually struggle to name one of their songs. i will DEFINITELY have heard them because i listen to a lot of pop radio. i may or may not have liked their songs, but as it stands, i'm not sure which songs are theirs. that's fine by me though. if they weren't singing them then someone else would be, but i don't necessarily see that as a bad thing. yeah, some of the production and writing peeps are 'behind closed doors' but is that a bad thing? not in my eyes, it's just a different approach. look at musicals and operas, how often are they performed by the writers? it's not entirely comparable i know but hopefully you see what i'm getting at.
second, (“A place for Weezer fans to share dubstep remixes of Radiohead”, that's AMAZING.
beyond that, i don't know, there's a place for it in my life, i spend VERY little money on pop music because it's out in the world (as you said about pubs etc) so i'm exposed to it as much as i need to be. not totally sure if i agree about there being no opt out but then maybe that's just about where we each live or something.
just for the record, and because it may give you more insight into my tastes i suppose, when it comes to visual art i'm a big fan of highly polished, clean cut stuff, from hirst's spot painting back to some of the really great modernist paintings that came out of the bauhaus by Matisse et al. it's not all that i like, a lot of the stuff i like is very messy and much more complicated (both when we talk about painting or music) i suppose beyond that all i can do is be really glib and say that it's what i like. i suppose that's how all these things end. haha.
funnily enough, i hate shit chart indie. Personally i think if people are going to form a band then they should make more of an effort
No-one is about to defend Westlife
I'm not apologising for liking Katy Perry, nor am I enjoying her music ironically. Seriously, http://youtu.be/KlyXNRrsk4A is better than anything on the second CSS album. And I use them as an example because the first time I heard it I thought it was CSS
you've gone up in my estimation.
I fucking LOVE Katy Perry and I am by no means ashamed of it.
There is nothing that winds me up more than people who think just because you like pop music, it MUST mean you're thick and have no taste in music. I could like the exact same things as you do but also like Katy Perry / Beyonce / GaGa - you name it, would that mean my taste in music is shit because I also like pop? Nope. People who feel the need to show the world how COOL they are because they solely listen to Indie or Alternative music are just narrow minded. Live a little! Like something thats out of the norm. Some pop music is shit, some indie music is shit, it doesn't mean the whole genre is shit and nothing can be good in there.
where to begin.
i'm fine with that.
was referring to the other guy.
i was sure when i scrolled up it was a reply to my post. apologies again
i dont think this is coming across properly
if you like it, you like it - there isn't anything more to it.
If you're ashamed of liking something, you're a pretentious knob who only cares about what other people think of their music taste.
Oh I jest, I just don't like them.
A good song, is a good song, is a good song. Of course the context you describe above is important but at the end of the day if you gets you going then who cares what stupid fucking little route to your ears, that you have imagined, it takes.
'Toxic' by Britney Spears is a good tune.
genuine geunine question, what makes you so sure you are right?
