I love Paris 1919 but what others do people think are his best?
is infact the 3 full albums of Fear, Slow Dazzle and Helen of Troy.
Will get myself a bit of that.
Cale is a classic mixtape candidate - inconsistent, but the great songs are fucking incredible. Best overall value albums are Paris 1919, Vintage Violence and Music For a New Society.
enhanced very much by Eno fucking around with it and sticking it through odd machines whilst Cale was off going through some rough times. And it's got Gun on it, which is wonderfully fierce and has some crazy Manzanera guitar on it.
The Extra Playful EP he released last year isn't bad actually.
guts, heartbreak hotel, dirty ass rock n roll and darling i need you as well as his best spoken word piece.
fragments of a rainy season is really good. black acetate and honi soit are too often forgotten, i think.
which is an amazing solo live album, with Cale accompanying himself on acoustic guitar or piano on all of his best songs.
Hard to look beyond Paris 1919 for best studio album.
There, I've said it. Paris 1919 is a great album, sweet and catchy. But you're not getting all of Cale if you don't get some of the batshit, discordant, crazy screaming stuff. And add Eno and Manzanera into the mix, and that killer (kind of) title song and it's just a great album.
I like Fear but Paris 1919 is the masterpiece by some distance
I find Paris 1919 to be good but too restrained. It's catchy and accessible but Fear has the guts and sounds much more interesting.
Is he worth seeing live?
I know cause I've looked.
And a cheaper copy here:
Or like I mentioned earlier you can get the whole album on the Island Years compilation double cd which you can pick up pretty cheap.
Probably in that order
