I'm trying to enjoy the Rye Rye album, which is made difficult by the fact half of it is fucking awful :(
prince is sweaty.
i listened to at folsom prison just now, that's a real good record.
by Augustus Pablo.
Used to have it on tape about 15 years ago, and soundtracked many a loafing bbq, but finally splashed out on a cd reissue with various versions. Sounding massive on the basil soundsystem... (ok, sounding reasonable on my discman, sat at my work desk)
Might put some King Tubby on, I think, after I've finished reviewing these singles...
which is quite fantastic
Couple of summery d'n'b mixes
Young Marble Giants.
Got it today at long last, mainly been focusing on CD2 because I knew most of the stuff on CD1 already. Great b-sides group.
I went much lazier than that and opted for Pop Art today, prompting me to remember how fine an album Actually was - even on cassette.
A masterclass in synth-pop/songwriting and a good place to take a summer break from Indieville.
Started at Ta Det Lugnt and working through
Back of my neck getting burned and gritty
One of my favourites this year. The one with the Marvin Gaye sample, Good Luv'n, is a jam.
great comp on soul jazz records!
my ipod doesn't scrobble anymore so i don't have to worry about listening to the shins too much
which sounds like the music from California Games.
Album of the year? I think so.
a lot of the beats sounds like someone just pushed 'Electro-pop' on Microsoft Songsmith.
Slightly disappointed because I loved One Life Stand.
I listened to 'All Is Well' by The Spiny Anteaters.
I'm sure I've listened to this before and it kind of passed me by, but it sounded so great earlier. complimented the heat and the smell of privet and flowers.
the guitars have a gorgeous fuzzy depth to them. like walking through the woods or, with the bass playing from deep within, and drums that kind of reminded me of semi-empty plastic watering cans.
so good. somewhere between My Bloody Valentine, Yo La Tengo and Beat Happening.
... new LP has got some lovely summer sounds. not as headfucky as Bitte Orca either.
in the shape of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (awful name!) - perfect album for the pool side. Back home in France, 30 degree Celsius in the shade, thank you very much.
so I choose that.
Top notch pop-punk and I don't usually like pop-punk.
I think I listened to 'O.N.E.' about 14 times yesterday :-/
Office of Future Plans
New haunting indie folk! Shoreline weeks is amazing.
by Teenage Fanclub. This album was made for Sunny weather.
Next on the playlist is Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain.
Loads of Madness.
seems to be made for slow, sunny days
Also some Theo Parrish tracks, some Don Cherry, the most recent Scuba album...
perfect in the sunny haze.
please lock this thread and eat the key
'Forever' Young' LP by Alphaville.
Bloody stunning classic synth-pop.
Just got it a couple of days ago, so giving that a good listen - even though it's a tad miserable today and rain looking ever more likely.
it's of course 'Clear Moon' - Mount Eerie
It does fit in so well with the magic of the summer nights - strange because when I checked the lyrics it's all about fog and storms etc.
Oh well, it does it for me.
Hell on Earth.
hey Shipment, what are the twenty best hip-hop releases of the year so far? hip-hop + heat = the best, but I only know Killer Mike, El-P, a couple more, and the rolling thread is huuuuuge.
Schoolboy Q- Habits and Contradictions
Ab-Soul- Control Systems
Both from the 'Black Hippy' group w/ Kendrick Lamar, who's album is out next month I think- so look out for that one.
The new Nas- 'Life Is Good', is sounding great so far to me too.
Also, Ka- Grief Pedigree from earlier this year, although I don't know if that's summer music, bit of a harder sound, give it a go though. This track is nice:
Curren$y- The Stoned Immaculate is perfect for this kind of hazy weather.
I realise I'm not theShipment haha, sure he'll have many more!
yeah, Nas making a good record - how uncharacteristic! looking forward to giving it a rinse.
will check out those others too. need to give Schoolboy Q a proper go.
I have a hard time with lists these days, really. I haven't done any deep dives into too many albums this year, so this list could change drastically in the future. And honestly, only a handful of these would be be like 7.5 or above. Here be a quick-fire list:
Ab Soul - Control System
Action Bronson - Blue Chips
Boldy James - Consignment
E-40 - one of his releases. still getting through it all really.
Gangrene - Vodka & Ayahuasca
KA - Chief Pedigree
Killa Kyleon & Mouse On Da Track - Welcome to the Fish Fry
Lloyd Banks - v.6
Mayhem Lauren - respect the Fly Shit
Oh No - Ohnomite
Schoolboy Q - Habits & Contradictions
Showbiz & AG - Mug Shot Music: Preloaded
SL Jones x DJ Burn One - Paraphernalia
St Spittin - Lighters & Ink Pens Vol. 1
Tree- Sunday School
YP - Sleepwalking
Zilla - Zilla Shit 2 (these beats are immaculate)
Kevin Gates - Make em Believe
Young Thug - I Came From Nothing 1 & 2
Future - Pluto
many thanks, delivering as always.
or the Alchemist album which Im sure I will like.
Big smile on my face.
Today, that is how I will roll.
