ecstatic skyscraper poprock
you've either not listened to a lot of music or something about them REALLY grates you.
[/unpopular opinion time]
Used to like 'em, gone off them more and more as time goes by. HM and Singles are more than enough for me these days.
Ok that's wacky. Didn't see that one coming.
of Butler's input. After he left, they went a bit rubbish for me. Suede doing their first three albums in full at Brixton last year were amazing gigs. They're a great live band too.
as are most of the b-sides from that time. Pantomime Horse alone, especially the guitar bit after the second chorus which is beyond stunning, he says, probably getting a little too geeky about it.
I love them, but to be honest they're a pretty easy band to hate.
Actually, you don't.
but clearly the first 2 records plus the b-sides from that time (the Butler years) urinate from a great height over what came later.
Worst band in the world? There's a lot of indie schmuff that's even called 'credible' which is far worse. I smell hyperbole, I do
but the early stuff had this atmosphere and allure I've not really heard in music since, or in 'guitar' music anyway. They were known for the glam stompers but it's the other side of them, the slower more grandiose songs which really put them head and shoulders above other bands of the time. Just a shame it couldn't last.
There has been nobody quite like them since they came and went. Ambitious, stylish with an outsider point of view created through their music and visual style. I just take anybody seriously that see's no value in Dog Man Star, Stay Together, Trash, Into the Sea, The Drowners, To the Birds, etc just to name a few. Can you imagine a band putting out a single as weirdly apocalyptic as We Are the Pigs and getting into the charts. They captured so much of the drama and vision missing from so many of the guitar bands today. It's a shame what happened with A New Morning. That album did more to damage the way people view the band today then any album in history but up to the flawed but interesting Head Music they were singular act.
Great record. It's only downfall is that Alex Lee didn't contribute more to the songwriting.
What about Stay Together? Absolutely preposterous song but at the same time so fucking great. And that got to number 3! And with such amazing b-sides too. I can't imagine anyone today doing something like Stay Together let alone it getting to number 3.
....then you need to hook up with your boy/girlfriend, get an ice-cold can of Dr Pepper Cherry each and share a nice strong spliff whilst listening to 'So Young'.
If that doesn't change your mind then nothing will.
I've not seen one T-Shirt of theirs whenever I've been Topman.
... guess the fake account? :p
I think DIS should have a Troll of the Year competition. Hang on!
They may have one already, have you entered?
= best single of the 90's. Fact.
