Folk music = mostly voice + acoustic guitar
It can be boring as hell. If you like some energy in your music stay away from this genre...
How reductionist of you.

For me it's boring. But it can be interesting for others.
Ha, alright, boring response!
BTW, do you like folk music? If yes, what you find interesting about this genre?
There's good to be found in *most* all genres.
I don't really seek out folk music too much. It can be a very affecting genre though, one where the voice is at the center, the more raw and gritty the better for me. I like me some slide guitar, harmonica and fingerpicking acoustic work as well. Because the voice is so upfront with folk it opens the listener up to lyrical dissection. I'm not really a lyric guy, their not that important to me, but with folk its hard not to be more critical. I do have a thing for when folk influences bleed their way into other music. Love me some Akron/Family and Califone.
Idk hard to reduce a whole genre to a list of distinct positives when the genre is more expansive than you are giving it credit for.
Yeah, no energy in this:

It never drops the bass.
No beat. Stay away.
If Skrillex were to remix the entire genre, I might listen to it.
one of the worst posts ever

haha, do quite like that for some reason ;-)
No Skrillex please
He would ruin the entire genre :)
Folk music is high class music;
‘course a lot of low class people singing it. Matter of fact, most so-called folk singers don’t even look like folk. Folk song tells true stories, but terr'ble stories - because folk are terr'ble. Terr'ble songs make big songs, why do you think kids like rock'n’roll? Because it’s terr'ble!
