Another Uk Festival to bite the dust?
Guy from efestivals, when discussing wether T is goig to sell less for going pop, has said in the thread
'PS: there's a festival out there (I'm not going to name it, or get into a "is it XYZ fest?" guessing game) of a decent size, and which has the sort of line-up which I suspect would broadly satisfy the likes of devilman.
From what I'm hearing, that festival is under consideration of being cancelled. If it does get cancelled, then I think it will prompt a number of people to reconsider their take on what has happened around TitP this year. '
I would think Reading, but surely that wouldn't be cancelled?

Broken Social Scene
I don't understand most of this post
Can you have another crack, particularly at that first sentance. Thanks.
reading is bigger than "a decent size", i'd say.
As far as band headliners are concerned
The pool that organisers can draw from is shrinking fast. Wouldn't be surprised if that alone caused some mini-Readings to call it a day.
If you want to keep drawing large crowds at ever increasing prices, then pop on your line-up might be inevitable. If you still want to play alternative music, then maybe events like In The City are the way forward; a little less -massive field, corporate sponsors, £200 tickets-, a little more -local venues benefiting, decent sound and atmosphere at each show, reasonable prices-.
as
in discussing wether T in the Park is going to sell less tickets.
Basically, seems like a relatively major festival may be on the way out this year
*another
(sonisphere)
No chance of it being Reading
if FR are struggling to sell, then it would be Leeds to go
Could be V, they're not going well either
i
think they've sold better than Reading. Last year, they sold out when Reading didn't. I doubt it would be V.
by that
i mean v sold better than reading, not sonishphere
I'm pretty sure Sonisphere did sell better than Reading last year
by the by.
Yeah probably not V
but I know they're not selling as well as last year and I'd have expected them to sell out straight away.
Bestival or Hop Farm are the only other ones I could think of.
Reading did sell out
just not until the end, so some touts were a bit fucked over
They'd get rid of Leeds and keep Reading
not a chance Reading would get cancelled
as aactv said, they'd be more likely to snip Leeds, but even that is seems very unlikely.
has V sold out?
decent sized
Does not mean T, R&L, V. They would be "major"
i guess
so we're talking the Hop Farm's of this world then?
to be fair i was quite confused by the OP when i wrote that. i now know devilman is a user on the efestivals site, but i have no idea of his tastes.
definitely ATP
that
would be the sold out National festival date then?
Maybe latitude?
Latitude's not sold out yet
I really, really, hope it's not Latitude.
It's got pretty much my fave lineup of any festival of the past 5 years. Will be gutted.
they
just made another band annoucnement
I'd be surprised if it cancelled after that.
Guilfest!
That really needs to die
wo wo wo wo wo
what else is going to keep all those guildfordians away from Reading?
Build a wall
fuck you you fucking guilfowians! why you always bweaking down my wall?!
As someone who lived in guildford for 5 years
I do feel the need to try and say that not all of us are terrible people... however, i can imagine the amount of the nobby ones who get a Reading ticket bought for them must be quite annoying to others going to the festival (not that i've ever been).
As for Guilfest, i can safely say that as a whole, the sack o shit needs to die, even though it did give my old band some gig opportunities and Brian Wilson there a couple of years ago was badass
it's precisely people like you that i'm building a wall for
Guildford indeed!
Phoenix Fest
Bestival
Florence scared away all their potential customers
This must be the first time in ages
that Bestival didn't sell out ages ago! Could be that?
Maybe it's End of the Road? The lineup for that isn't great and I doubt they've sold anything like as many tickets as last year.
nah, bestival normally sells out in june or july doesn't it?
as long as it isn't my annual 'pretend I'm middle class raa raa long weekend'
at End of the Road I don't care
i
doubt it would be End of the Road. If they went ahead with No direction home...
Bestival is possible i guess, but surely sales for that are ok?
I was temped by Bestival's line-up this year for the first time since it started
so on that highly scientific basis, it isn't Bestival
I'd highly doubt its Bestival
it's selling pretty well as far as I understand
Didn't we establish End of the Road is propped up by the Church of Scientology?
;-)
wait, didnt someone post this a couple months ago actually
it would make sense
Devilman looks like he'd like sonisphere
Is this year's T In The Park line up any worse than other years?
It's always just the radio 1 playlist, and it's always pretty shit. what's new?
It has been getting worse over the years mate, it never used to be too bad
This year's lineup is just a disgrace.
It's an awful line-up, I reckon most folk are going because of the Roses.
If there's one I cannot understand having sold any tickets
it's this one. http://www.vintagefestival.co.uk/
I'll raise you this
http://www.lodestarfestival.com/lineup-2012/
oh my lord
Christ
Everyday life seems to be filled with what we should be doing and where we should be going. When asked “what is LodeStar about,” it’s hard to say because it isn’t the tangible side that’s important but it’s ethos. LodeStar is perhaps more about contemplating the reasons ‘why’ we do things. Feelings it can conjure inside are for you to make of it as you wish. I hope that experiencing the festival you understand the ‘why’ of LodeStar.
(That's a quote from the "About" section of their website, by the way.)
I suppose it's better than saying
Lodestar is about having the bass player out of The Magic Numbers headlining one of the nights of our festival
the 2010 one featured a few DiS-centric bands:
http://www.lodestarfestival.com/lineup-2010/
that can't be the Franke Rose, right?
who is THE Frankie Rose?
I'd certainly be contemplating why I do things
if I was at that festival watching Bob Geldof.
That said, at least it's cheap. The ones I don't get are the ones with shitty line ups that still cost nearly £150 (eg that Vintage Festival).
well
efestivals now downplaying the comment:
"This post is getting quoted on another site, and something is being made of it which is not related to what I've said, or how it was meant to be taken.
So to clear things up, the festival I'm referring to is ... just about any festival that gets cancelled in the future. The words I've used are vague enough to cover endless possibilities, and anyone who takes anything more from what i've said is being foolish."
OMGZZ READING IS CANCELLED!
neil from efestivals is the creepiest man on the internet. dedicates his life to leaking news about upcoming festival announcements. what a weirdo
Vintage festival now cancelled...
Good!
These festivals charging £150 for something akin to Vintage is scandalous. I'm looking at you "Wilderness" Festival
though Vintage has actually been folded into Wilderness...
I generally like him
His arguing style can sometimes leave a lot to be desired.
i think it might be green man
this year's line up is downright weird. not good weird either. sure there's some good stuff there, and some great, but as a whole it's really incoherent.
...although going back to the op, you could hardly say green man has "gone pop"
i dunno.
How is Truck doing?
That one seemed to go from indie-friendly garden fete to expanding to ideas possibly above its intentions. I would have loved to have gone o it when it was a smaller affair, not bothered about it now.
