This is the thread for general excitement, roll call and following the show comments.
Played a mix of stuff from across all of their albums.
Not many bands can veer straight from lush ambient songs straight into mosh-pit creating noise rock, but they did this repeatedly. People didn’t know how to take them initially, especially during that song with all the bird noise from WIXIW; most people were too bewildered to clap after that one because the crackles and moans were way louder than what they were playing.
Once they’d played one of their ‘big’ songs though everyone was on side.
Only criticism was that there was only one song from Drums Not Dead.
Really would like to hear Sailing to Byzantium, but not sure if they play that anymore.
I fucking love that tune
But I am not sure how much they vary their setlist night to night.
Send me a PM if you still need one.
face value, £14 (tickets were £12.50 each + £3 service fee)
As per above, £14 (face value plus booking charge). Let me know if you're interested.
Liars 9:30pm - 10:30pm
Unfortunately Vessel are not Vessels :(
Any other spare tickets going begging?
come 8 o'clock, collecting spares. Big thanks to those offering them. Just hope it doesn't rain while we're queuing up.
Never been to XOYO before, is it a front row is the best row situation or are there balconies etc.?
exciting, raw, visceral i dunno what you wanna call it, but they made a tall asian guy mosh and i don't normally mosh (/jump around)
that pissed on all the sister world shows as a 5 piece and was on par with when i saw them at primavera 09 (when my love affair began with liars). TRULY EXCELLENT GIG
I was at the back though and I'm really short. And some fat guy in front of me was farting through the entire set. Oh well. The new album is really good so that's ok.
I was at the front and kept on smelling horrific smells. Thought it was the bloke next to me (feel bad about the filthy looks I threw his way now). Perhaps someone should check the drains, smelt like someone had died in there...
Was right at the front which helps in a venue so oddly shaped.
The new stuff sounded great and the crowd went crazy for the older material. So pleased they played Broken Witch and finishing on Plaster Casts worked perfectly. I thought the progression through their set was perfect.
Shout out to the guy in front of me (i think on a date?) showing his female partner his spreadsheet of gigs he is going to/has been to.
It's more of a general gig list for a bunch of mates, but is generally available to all and sundry here: http://newinja.tumblr.com/post/22996850801/updated-gig-list
Back on point, brilliant gig. First time seeing them live and glad I didn't miss it in the confines of a smaller venue like XOYO. Didn't expect the crowd to go so mental, but it brought a smile to my face (even if I probably seemed like a stick-in-the-mud trying to bat back the hordes of sweaty moshers). Thought new stuff sat well with older noisier numbers and was very happy to hear No.1 Against The Rush being rolled out as I absolutely adore that tune.
I though you'd be a DiSer but I didn't want to cramp your style if you were on a date!
And you should have just butted in - I was just with another DiSer who was in need of a spare ticket (shattered_ghoul - see above).
What did you think of Vessel? Thought he definitely got better as the set went on as it developed into eminently danceable rave/techno beats, but initially it did remind me of this (probably very harsh): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLa8Br569gA
I can't watch that clip but the know is immediately from the title, haha. I may have descended into that a little bit... I enjoyed it though, more so as you say when it got a bit more tangible.
I liked the venue this time, but probably more so for the fact that I didn't fork over stupid amounts of money, for shit beer, from mardy staff (as at Fucked Up for instance)
although it isn't colour coded. I feel inadequate now.
But the WIXIW stuff didn't really work live. A shame cos I love the new album. Plus the sound in XOYO is pretty bad
...misery guts. That was fucking ace. "I was surprised by how much of WIXIW they played" - it's their new album, you fool!
Off of The Shining soundtrack.
In the show review.
though I am not familiar with the older stuff. Hell of a crowd too. No smell/sound complaints here.
