cover of that Jamie XX thing or something
It's pretty cool to listen to all three of them in a row and see how the songs change the original source material
Fair play to Jamie xx really, I think he's a pretty weak/overrated producer but he did something pretty special with this one.
Also, it really worries me sometimes just how much I love Drake.
on the drake part.
keeps bits of the the passion of the original but spices it up, I don't think Rihanna adds much to it on her version though
...of a 1959 Bobby Bland song, written by Brook Benton
extra layers added all the time
Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Roy Hamilton, Etta James, Mick Hucknall, Irma Thomas, O. V. Wright and Mark Lanegan
or so Wikipedia tells me...
I used to really enjoy Rihanna, I still stick on SOS often for a wail along/dance about when I feel shit.
However, I'm so sick of seeing her and hearing her everywhere. I think she reached saturation point this time last year, yet she's still hammering out albums and singles, and popping up everywhere to promote them. This was the song that tipped me over the edge from liking her to actively disliking her.
As for the song, I've mostly heard it at work from the awful £10 tesco cd/radio combo that plays in the corner of the office. Then it just makes me want to listen to the Jamie xx/GSH version and makes me wonder who gets paid off all their sales/plays. Hopefully some of it makes it's way down to his estate or family, if he has any. I assume I've heard it on a better system at some point, but I don't really remember it.
Don't really have an opinion on Drake, but whenever he's mentioned I instantly think of the girl who had DRAKE tatooed across her forehead.... mentalist.
