just put this on. the first 2 minutes are absolutely incredible.
best band of the past few decades <3 <3 <3
Hot chip got a lot of votes.. that made me so happy
"past few decades".
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
It's awesome. Not quite sure just yet if it's as consistent as One Life Stand but the highs are probably EVEN better. 'These chains' is truly brilliant.
2 tracks in, the first is particularly great. Love this band.
they have an automated tanoy playing music at night, amongst all the obnoxiously standard pop and 80s fare they seem to slip in a hot chip tune ever 2 hours or so... meaning they are either becoming really big or the guy that programmed the Tanoy is a huge Hot Chip fan
hard to fully understand! They were already one of my favourite bands after the first two albums - gobsmacking.
One and a half listens in, and this might even be their best yet. Definitely their most consistent I think. No one standout track, but Motion Sickness, Don't Deny Your Heart, Flutes and Ends of the Earth are all amazing. Night and Day sticks out a bit, but is still a great pop single, like a darker Ready for the Floor. The album is probably vying with Japandroids for my best of the year so far.
I'm ashamed to read the Guardian sometimes. Check out the comments section and the vast amount of negativity:
and the commenters on that site are consitently more negative, reactionary and prejudiced than even on the Daily Mail site. God knows how, but it's true.
But sadly I think you've hit on a partial truth there :(
Sounds really good. Gutted 'How do you do?' doesn't quite capture the same buzz as thier Jools performance.
Gonna be listening to this loads this summer though methinks.
Flutes still the standout for me. Really looking forward to the Heaven gig now.
starts off really strong, some great tracks, then just like every hot chip album tails off and loses consistency. They're pretty good, but never released a great album. Got a feeling this might be their year though, like Elbow when they won the mercury. Actually yeah, I'd put this in as a main contender for the mercury come to think of it, weird competition that it is.
A bit like SFA, everybody seems to have a different favourite record.
I think the last two records are by a bazillion miles their most consistent and whole, personally.
see reply below
is by far their most cohesive and best album.
in fact I'd go as far to say its one of my favourite albums ever.
the rest all have their moments but often come across as a little disjointed. the warning is just pure brilliance start-to-finish.
you...preferred their earlier work?
I love Coming On Strong but probably hold Made In The Dark and One Life Stand in higher regard
It's so much better than I remembered actually. Might put it on again...
But I don't get the impression they're many people's favourite band (although that might change), perhaps because they've not really gone close to one great album yet. But nor have they enough good albums or tunes to compare to SFA throughout their career, who I'd say have more enthusiastic base of fans who would call SFA their favourite band. I'm no SFA fanboy, but for the sake of argument, any SFA best of >>>>>>>>> any potential Hot Chip best of
Where they fall down are the stupid filler album tracks, they are unquestionably a rock solid singles band.
very similar bands, really. both with the rare ability to be emotional in a totally joyous pop context; both with remarkable gifts for pop songcraft; both melding unfashionable pop/rock and electronic/dance influences; both unerringly consistent.
It's ok but I find it kind of annoying.
expecting to be dancing away at my desk within the hour.
Sounds like my new favourite Hot Chip tune, and I thought it completely kicked the ass of the Later... performance of it. Still not the absolute classic I was hoping for as an album, but ever closer...
Should I delve in?
I do think this is Hot Chip's best yet.
Immediately jumped in next to Errors as my album of the year so far, and it's a guarantee that I'll be listening to this all summer long.
Flutes, Let Me Be Him, Motion Sickness, How Do You Do? and Night & Day are so damn amazing.
Very, very good. Given the time they'd been away, they were very tight as a band too, with the addition of a new female drummer as well. Have to say, I think the new album is great so far and some of the tracks of it they'd played last night sounded great, Motion Sickness, How Do You Do?, Let Me Be Him, Night and Day and Flutes in particular, while the older stuff was updated and refreshing to hear live. Lighting was also great.
Encore also featured a cover of Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac which also went down well.
Not sure why. A good record, nonetheless.
is a tee-une.

Oct 16th - Southampton Guildhall
Oct 19th - London O2 Academy Brixton
I need to play it loud when I get home whilst making the dinner and do some slow pop to Look at Where We Are. What a song.
second time in and I am grinning like a fool
top 5 of the year, easy
I just don't like Taylor's vocals.
Sad really 'cause everything else about this album as well as 'One Life Stand' sounds very good but the voice just sucks all my enthusiasm away.
this album is glorious!
but still one of my favourite albums of 2012 so far.
Should stop really.
is the only track i've heard. but oh god, it's a great track!
Great little record though I still think OLStand is just that bit better. Been listening to The Warning a lot too. Was very wrong about that one, it's superb.
