Personally I don't like it, think it one of the only Animal Collective songs I don't enjoy.
It's not Reverend Green/Peacebone, still damn good though.
are a scholar and a gent.
That stands apart really.
that whole album is brilliant.
Strawberry Jam = Sung Tongs > Feels = Spirit They've Gone > MPP = Here Comes The Indian > Campfire Songs = Danse Manatee
EPs and b-sides/one-off singles combined would be with MPP and HCTI. i.e. amazing, but not quite top drawer on the whole ('Street Flash', 'People' and 'Water Curses' being as good as anything).
He thinks its really hypnotic and stands out a mile on an otherwise fairly mediocre album
on an amazing album. Can't believe you like SJ and somehow not this.
they're the core, the beating heart of it, or whatever other cliché you want to say for it. SJ without them just isn't worth it (despite all the other songs also being awesome, it just wouldn't be the same without that duo in the centre).
yeah agreed, not good. There's a lot of real patchy stuff on SJ, but then some of it is just awesome, winterwonderland for one. When I first put on MPP I was expecting and hoping for another SJ style weird-out, but in retrospect I'm glad they cleaned up the odd a bit, cause MPP is just full of TUNES, and only sung tongs is anything like that.
When they played it loive they jammed it all the way for 15mins and it was THE WORST THING IVE EVER SEEN
the point of AC that they make great songs that are weird? That's what I've always got anyway
Sung Tongs has a couple of lengthy jams too
AND noone even knew what song it was until a few minutes before the end! People were just milling about looking lost and some had sat down
who were in attendance when I saw them during the height of the MPP exposure in Liverpool whose attention spans were so meagre that they were talking and taking photos of themselves during the extended dubby end to 'Daily Routine'?
PLAY THE SONGS EXACTLY AS THEY ARE ON THE RECORD, YEAH???
these people can fuck off and never come to an AC gig again, ta.
than some formless noise collage from behind a laptop
no, not at all.
when describing a 15 minute dirge that no-one, even the band members was even vaguely interested in until at some point towards the end of the 'song' it was decided that the mess they were making sounded most like Fireworks, so that's what it must've been
do you not think perhaps you and others who got bored are perhaps pop formalists who just don't get the explorative side of AC?
What I might expect is some level of focus, something to lift any sort of highlight from the murky, interest-free hogwash that turned out to be 'fireworks'. I'm no idiot, any band who makes 'Spirit...' is gonna make some freaky noise, but what we actually got would have made Charlemagne Palestine seem palatable. It honestly got to the stage that people were just bored with it, and yeah, some of them (a lot of them) might've just been MPP groupies, but the hardcore (me) were there too, and we were unimpressed
Citation needed? It was Rescue Rooms, nottingham, sometime around 2008/9, a cold night, but not a hint of moisture in the air so it felt warmer than it was.
I personally love what they do with 'Fireworks' live, but maybe this one occasion was a misfire.
And you were all like "Nah, don't want, leave me be"
steel chair to the back of the head BAH GAWD STONE COLD HE'S KILLED HIM
with lots of non-songs (I haven't listened to it in a while).
I've heard it dozens of times but just cannot see why people hold in such high regard.
For Reverend Green and Peacebone are my clear favourites off Strawberry Jam.
don't make me chase you all out with the broom.
I just don't get that track. I skip it most times.
At all. Listening to albums, but skipping tracks. Is it just me who never does this? Listen to the whole thing or else it's incomplete and you might as well just listen to a couple of tracks from it or something.
Also, doesn't it totally mess it up, with how For Reverend Green goes straight into it? Isn't it kinda jarring like that?
With nice-sounding guitars and drums. And the singer's not a poof.
either Fireworks or Summertime Clothes or What Would I Want? Sky or Brothersport or Leaf House.
have you listened to much of the earlier records?
Spirit They've Gone, Spitit They've Vanished: unique and very special avant garde pop.
Danse Manatee: noisey freakout, at the very fringes of pop.
Here Comes The Indian: spectral tribal drone.
Campfire Songs: pre-Sung Tongs acoustic porch drifters.
go listen, expand your mind or sutin.
Their best stuff is on Feels.
I really like it, I think it's swell and it's one of my favourites on Strawberry Jam. And that's all I will say on the matter.
Sorry :( Had to throw it out there because no one seems to be mentioning it!!! EVIL PEOPLE! And not it's not just the freak out at the start before people start saying it's just them being avant garde & thats why I like it, look out for the melodies later you bellends... the best melodies they've ever done!
sort of wish I didn't now
but do listen to it, it's an amazing song
in the scream department.
thank you good sir
