Sooooo psyched for this
Also, stage times you bastards, stage times.
Otherwise how is a chap supposed to maximise drinking time and also see both bands? How?!
Im going to guess 8:45
Don't quote me on that!
So I'd be surprised to see Japandroids much before 10pm
Would like to see something official though.
Arse. Trains to catch etc...
Also, does anyone actually know where this place is? Googling it, it looks like it's in the basement of Metre, the awesome pizza place.
But it is my understanding that it is below that pizza joint.
I don't know anywhere cheap to drink beforehand. Any recs?
the Wenlock Arms, which is reasonably near, is supposed to be quite nice. Good for ales, if that's your thing.
Not sure whether its cheap though.
been listening to them all morning. Pumped.
They played a song for me. I'm such a fanboy so it made my year. They also played Darkness On The Edge Of Gastown. Also they're selling the new record on the merch desk. Also the support act is fun hip-hop.
Excellent. How long did they play for?
However, the vocals let them down a bit at times and they do seem to be slowly morphing into the Hold Steady.
I didn't think it let them down. I also don't get the hold steady reference. Can't believe it was such a small crowd last night :(
Rally enjoyed the new single too. And the one that Cadence Weapon said was his new single.
Small crowd was probably down to White Denim playing at the Academy :(
Will pick up a 12" (WAHEY) tonight then
ceedee only, the vinyl pressings didn't arrive in time. SOZ.
his name is Cadence Weapon, he's a double Polaris Prize-nominated rapper, also poet laureate of Edmonton, Canada. He's fucking cool.
Should be good. Although a learned friend told me I should be seeing Harvey Milk at The Brudenell instead.
just out of interest anyone have any idea how long it'll take me to walk from liverpool street? i'm guessing around 15 mins?
Just under a mile I reckon. So 10-20 minutes depending on whether you march or stroll.
Don't suppose anyone has a spare do they
2 into 3 doesn't seem to go...
desperately hope Japandroids finish by 11 or very soon after, my last train's at 11.30...
I emailed the Venue and they said that everything will be done by midnight at the latest.
Hopefully a fair bit before that though - if the doors are at 8, then CW should on 8.45ish, so assuming he's doing a 30-45 min set, japandroids could be on at 9.45/10pm ish for a 70min set, all wrapped up just after 11. Maybe.
Starting work at 7am has turned me lame
Or at least the chorus does.
After every "oh yeah! alright!" I have an almost pavlovian need to bellow, "TAKE IT EASY BABY! MAKE IT LAST ALL NIGHT!"
I like the song apart from that though.
Was a little disappointed they ended on For the Love of Ivy though as i'm not too fond of it anyway but especially as I got my hopes up for them to close on one of I Quit Girls or Continuous Thunder, feels like a bit of a missed opportunity there. Awesome anyway, little bit deaf now.
I Quit Girls first got me into them, and Continuous Thunder is the standout from the new album for me.
Still rocked it though, I thought they were brilliant, tight as hell, passionate, sweaty, wonderful.
you SUCK for not getting there for Cadence Weapon
Really got me hyped, from being in a bit of a bad mood and overly tired.
Japandroids were fantastic too, I just wish it was a Friday/Saturday night so I could really let go to them.
I am comfortable with my choice.
Also, pretty sure I spotted you getting messy in the MOSH PIT, I was leaning on the pillar like a too cool for school bastard, was going to come say hi after but had to dash for a train.
and it pains me to say it, 'cos on record they're 10/10 stuff for me. The vocals were pretty horrendously out of key for most of their set, which is never going to end well in a two-man two-part harmony group. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt 'cos CAMP is a fucking shit venue- I'll see them again when they next tour, hopefully somewhere better.
Had never heard any Cadence Weapon before. He was cool, gonna give him a listen now.
his new album's not out yet, but I highly recommend his last proper album (Afterparty Babies) and his last mixtape (Tron Legacy, which is/was available for free on his website). They're both really great.
So. Much. Sweat.
I hadn't gone expecting Japandroids to sing in tune - they barely do on record. I'd expected energy and intensity and shout-alongs, and got it by the bucketload. Most fun I've had at a gig in ages.
Cadence Weapon was really good too. And I like Camp as a venue, give me a little sweaty underground box a minute's walk from a tube station over an ornate-looking venue with crap sound any day.
Was right at the front so it was awesome - couldn't tell if they were in tune due to the loudness. Pleasingly energetic throughout. Can understand if you were towards the back only being able to see their heads it might have been a bit meh tho.
but the drummer's vocals were gratingly bad- I don't think he could hear himself at all.
Anyway, I know how being negative in music board threads goes, so I'm outta here.
I couldn't hear his vocals from where I was - I have noticed him being out of tune though on some live videos...
could hardly hear a thing they were saying/singing but the riffs were nice and crunchy as always. got pretty flipping sweaty at the front by the end.
But that was because I was the right level of drunk and made my way to the front where people were singing along and dancing. When I last saw them a few years ago I was stood at the back of the Hoxton Bar & Grill where I could hear every dodgy vocal and where nobody moved an inch.
I went for the riffs, singalongs and a bit of a dance, and I got all of that plus a hole in my trousers. For the Love of Ivy has grown on me so didn't mind that being played as an encore.
i hope its good.
drummers vocals were good.
I bet danielkelly's distraught. Unlucky.
I want to go and see them in Nottingham tomorrow as well but still need to sort out somewhere to stay the night
