Actually bought it yesterday on your recommendation so cheers for that!

Had listened to a couple of tapes previously but have gone pretty deep, most probably due to the awesome Sun Araw and Congos collaboration.

His work's pretty varied, ranging from Keith Fullerton Whitman style synth workouts to almost full on noise, but he also does the blissful drone stuff amazingly well. As the OP was looking for Emeralds style drone, would massively recommend these two (think both are actually from late last year rather than this year, but whatever):

Really didn't want anyone to have that impression. I ordered the tape from them and it came within about a week and not only this, but they threw in some free stuff too, so would totally recommend ordering from them.

Was trying to make light of the fact that ordering a cassette tape from thousands of miles away was quite extreme lengths to go to just to hear an album, but I'm sure loads of people in this thread have done something similar. Apologies to Full of Nothing records and anyone who thought I was being smarmy.

This is a more of a singer-songwriter record to be honest, but the label affiliations and the way echo is used (esp.) do give it this lush, almost drone-like feel while at the same time being quite anxious & restless. It's a really good record.

Such great news. My favourite label by a country mile 2009-2010, but all they managed to release in 2011 was a free download April Fools's Day 'tribute' to Creed. When the had a 'hurricane sale' at the end of last year, really thought it was the end of the road for them.

First new release is an Alice Cohen LP called 'Pink Keys' which if it's anything like the last one she put out will be awesome. Also coming out on CD which I think is a first for OESB. Hopefully will be the start of another deluge of incredible records that can be discussed at length in this thread...

Those of you who liked Peaking Lights last year MUST listen to this, it's probably the first 'guitar' album i've listened to this year i've fallen for. Syrupy tropical stuff, sweet like mangos. Aguirre are on such a tip at the minute.

and it made up for the ever-so-slight disappointment of the AWVFTS album (I think I'm the only person who doesn't find it amazing)...

But I'm not sure it's the standout album for me, W&C and bvdub are slaying it in terms of play count...

If you like the heavier end of Barn Owl and Expo '70 then this is pretty much perfect. Two hours of heavy amplifier worship. Couple of guys on banjo and lap steel guitar (!) apparently, but you'd never know. Lot of pedals and a bit of tape manipulation too by the sound of things. Only listened all the way through once so far but it's already one of my favourite things this year
