...but certainly "wounding"
Due to the fact that they are generally regarded as being a negative user experience for the website (as well as the brand within the ad)
make me want to smash something into little bits.
took all of 30 seconds to be up and running with it. Life is in order.
I've done it now and thanks for the tip.
Not only does it get rid of the annoying ads but it massively speeds up the loading of web pages.
How else would I have remembered to make that awesome Memory Foam thread
Get a better computer if they are slowing down your use of this site. The ads provide Sean vital revenue to pay for the running of this site. No ads mean no site. Ad blockers are not the answer either as the ad agencies who book the site measure the effectiveness of the ad i.e. how many people see them, click and interact on them. If the ads don't perform well enough then Sean doesnt get paid or doesnt get more ads booking. the other answer is no ads so he'd have to charge a subscription or hope a Bruce Wayne style millionaire playboy is around to fund DiS to keep it ad free. having a few animated ads are a small price to pay for keeping the site free and for you to enjoy being part of this comment snd write inane bollocks like this thread. Your comment is naive at best. Welcome to 2012. By the way - the new Beach House album is great!!!!
Is the only site I have seen that auto plays ads with full sound. I don't care if the ads are running silently unless I click on them, but it isn't cool to have audio randomly blasting my head off.
Listen, if sean would do a yearly fundraiser I'd be all over it, as I've said before.
than obnoxious ads. i understand the need for ads, but I feel ads have become way too obnoxious and invasive on some sites when they don't need to be. what about a DiS store? maybe sell official DiS penis cozys? i think there's quite a few people on here who can crotchet
with DiSisms...^this, threadsmash, SOAWJO etc.
'naive at best.'
1. Autoplay ads are not the norm, and autoplay audio ads are very rare; usually the rather more desperate territory of unsavoury warez/torrent sites.
2. More intrusive ads does not automatically translate to more money. As shown here, they make people look into alternative solutions (i.e. adblock) or stop people visiting altogether. 'Get a better computer' is a fucking stupid thing to say even primarily from keeping the running of the site in mind.
But I still find them to be extremely annoying when I'm trying to listen to music whilst browsing the site.
Ads...hell, I'll even click on them once or twice. Cos I love Sean, I love DiS. But annoying speaking ads coming across my precious speakers, fucking up some song. Can't tolerate it.
Will download ad blocker NOW.
I feel guilty, cos I don't mind looking at them. (In fact, professional curiousity ... I like them.)
But that sound thing. Can't do it. Me = happy now.
the odd thing is, that you're based in the US, so you won't be seeing the same ads as people in the UK, so I'm now really-really confused where these ads are coming from :(
Strangely, I don't find the ads that intrusive here. At P4K, I have to navigate carefully in case you hit a roll down.
at DiS ever! What are you guys talking about?
but I think a few are slipping in via the remnant slots (which is basically a percentage of ads that are shown when all the premium ads have finished running - like, advertisers only want to hit the same user 5 times with their advert, so a percentage of ads are then shown in the gaps at a lower rate... I realise it makes little to no sense)
but since recently they blast out some shite advert as soon as the page loads. IT'S JUST NOT ON.
thats where there are so many ads got to pay the piper !
These were meant to have been stopped.
I've always been too lazy to install this, but you've made me come to my senses.
got to have a good laugh at JohnnyZZZZZs post again.
I have never seen an ad on this site. I didn't even know Facebook had ads until recently when I used someone else's PC.
If anyone is concerned about this stopping cash being brought into the site, I don't click on ads anyway. But if anyone links me to the sites in question, I will happily click 100 times on them in recompense.
