Saw her last night. Gave her a second chance and it was as disappointing as the last time I saw her.
She's talked about putting a band together for the next tour.
I'd kinda say, well, it's up to the artist if they want to do that. But with her I just feel it's kinda necessary. I saw her supporting How To Dress Well in Manchester last year and she seemed kinda out of it- although I gave her the benefit of the doubt because that's when the riots were kicking off there (or so we were told) and everyone seemed a bit weirded out by it. But yeah, last time, fucking up songs, going out of time entirely almost every song, just incredibly amateurish for someone touring worldwide. Sad to say that my cynical prediction was correct as it was exactly the same last night. Absolutely lovely person, amazing vocal range and love her stuff on record but just a bit of a disaster live. Sure, some songs sounded great, but the failings of it overshadowed it. I appreciate that they're different but when you see someone like Baths or Daedelus perform live it just really, really puts someone like Grimes to shame with regards to the live performance.
Didn't go in the end, doesn't matter so much 'cos I'll see her at Primavera.
I'll go with an open mind,I could see why this sort of thing might not translate that well though.
to see if I could pick one up outside, I'm that keen to see her live. I was put off by the guy's comments of the Glasgow show and blobcow has just confirmed my decision was probably right. I'll preserve the memory of the record.
After reading this thread. I ended up really enjoying it. Yes it was short, but still enjoyable. She seemed to be in a good mood, and her 'dancers' were amusing.
A fun evening.
yes she made a number of "fuck ups" however she dealt with it in good humour. i dont think its reasonable to expect her to have an amazingly 'tight' live performance as she's still learning the ropes.
re the live show in general, it's not incendiary or anything, but its good to hear the songs loud and also messed around with a little. i wouldnt say that you miss a lot by not seeing her, but it's still a lot of fun if you like her :)
