Is anyone else going to Reading (Saturday only)...

Alex-in-Ciderland [Edit] [Delete] 14 replies 12:39, 8 May '12

for the sole purpose of seeing At The Drive-In?

Sure, there's The Shins, Mastodon and some other good stuff too, but ATD-I are the only thing that convinced me to buy a ticket.

I remember feeling ancient there when I went for the last time in 2004, I was 24 then and I'm 32 now.

  • I was considering it

but the videos from Coachella didn't really convince me that I'd be missing much, seemed really lacklustre and made me wonder if I should just stick to the memories of seeing them first time round.

    Not been since 2004 either.

    • On the strenght of Coachella I'd say don't bother

Thank god Refused were there that weekend to help dislodge ATDI somewhat from my memory.

      • I thought the Coachella performance was actually pretty decent.

Yeah, ok Omar's not going aff his tits anymore but it sounded pretty great.

Cedric still seems up for it as well.

  • I went to Reading last in 2009.

I was 22, and felt far too old. Demographic seems to hover around 16/17/18.

That said, first time I went I *was* 16 and had the time of my life... so not knocking it.

    • I'm 39, and going this year

...and have been most years since I can remember. The largest single demographic there is young kids - as it should be - but oddly I felt old when I went in my 20s but not my 30s. I think a lot of people who made me feel old then are still going - so you've got people in their mid-30s too. And I'm far from the oldest person there. If you like enough bands on the bill, age is no reason not to go.

That said, it's a fair few years since I camped at it. Not so much because of age but because of stuff that has happened - kids falling onto my tent fighting, people peeing up the side, having my clothes strewn across a muddy path by people discovering that there was nothing worth nicking in my tent...

      • I'm 40 and going.

Only going because i get freebies tickets though. I tend to hide in the new bands tents while the kids go watch rubbish on the main stage.

      • yeah it's the camping that I'm referring to really

        that's where it's really intolerable.

        • I've been alright with camping

asides from the usual wankers making noise at silly o'clock, worst I've had was a crate nicked. which was infuriating at the time actually

  • I felt old camping when I was about 21

I don't think I'd go through the effort of going for a day (queuing to get in, having to get home at night) unless I lived round the corner or could get a lift home.

  • I'm thinking of going Leeds

on a side note, how far down are The Hives?!

    TheKennedyCurse | 8 May '12, 16:27 | X
    • yeah really bizarre billing

reminds me of when Yeah Yeah Yeahs were 5th from top on the Other Stage @ Glasto in 2009 and drew a crowd that reaffirmed that they should have really been second-headlining or thereabouts

that tent is gonna be RAMMED

      SCROTUM @TheKennedyCurse | 8 May '12, 17:46 | X
    • people still care about The Hives?

      it's not 2002...

      dacbo @TheKennedyCurse | 8 May '12, 18:00 | X
      • i know they're not exactly big hitters now

but they were still quite a big deal about 4 or 5 years ago, certainly enough to see them maybe open the main stage or whatever, and definitely not to be 5th/6th down on the NME stage. You're talking about a festival where one of the stage headliners are Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, whose name I haven't heard mentioned for at least 7 years

        TheKennedyCurse @dacbo | 8 May '12, 18:04 | X
  • Seriously tempted for ATD-I too

but probably won't. I've never actually been to a festival and seems a bit scary. Plus don't really know anyone who would go. :(

    I hope ATD-I announce a London show.
