i'd rather have a bowl of CocoRosie
let's all talk about the band CocoRosie.
i've been listening to them the past few days after posting about them in the Anthony Meltdown thread. they're probably one of the most perfect bands ever i think - by no means do i listen to them the most but everything about their music and general aesthetic is perfectly considered to convey this loose sense of 'otherness' which i think is what their focus is.
also, and i've said this before, but i think they will go on to be basically the velvet underground or something of the past decade. some of the biggest acts in indie and pop are hugely indebted to them - for example Florence & The Machine is basically just CocoRosie for straight people and i remember The XX talking about them a lot when they first came through. i doubt it is a direct thing also but i can hear them a lot in that deconstructed hip-hop witch house stuff that was cool last year, and i can't think of anyone who was making weird ghostly rap stuff before 2004. pick me up on that if you can name anyone.
finally, the last point i want to make is that Noah's Ark is probably the saddest album i've ever heard. not lyrically or anything but the music just sounds completely broken and traumatised.
