Just a reminder to everyone: this album is fucking AWESOME.
You my pet my voodoo chicken noodles on the rise.
Dr. Octagon, please come to the office, come now
Oh fuck! Patient just died in room 105
Cirrohsis of the eye
Nurse come in, please where are you?
fuck it he's dead
Oh shit there's a horse in the hospital!
Its wonderful sitting by the pond, talking.
Like I want to hate it cos its like the go-to for every kid who hates hip hop or is a marginal fan or whatever. So deep down I want to be all precious about it and be like YEAH, BUT THIS but I really just have to be honest with myself and confess my love for it.
Kool Keith is a strange man, and this is the album he was destined to leave behind for us to digest for many years to come... well this and some of those other ones he did, but mainly this.
Pretty much perfect.
and somehow never got round to listen to this, this shall be rectified later
I've only heard it a handful of times but damn it's good.
Makes you miss the days of single producer hip hop albums.
As mentioned above, everything fell into place on this one - the concept, Kool Kieth on amazing form and Dan The Automater's production absolutely killing it. Icing on the cake is Q-Bert; the scratching on 'Bear Witness' is probably the best on any record, ever
if anyone needs an all caps lyrics thread it's Kool Keith.
Half-shark, half-man, skin like an alligator. Carrying a dead walrus. Check it.
and of course moose bumps
stupid lyrics, yet an amazing album. how does this work?
most lyrics are stupid though. Kool Keith is just crazy
Think about it, if you was there standing looking at me
What would you do, if I hit your face with dog doodoo?
Smear purple flies on your forehead
Spit in your salad, vomit on your brother's breakfast
Take your ass outside, burn your mother's house
Bring pet mice, and scare your sister with my gray mouse
Then drop him under the bed, and leave him there dead
Take out your parakeet, with scissors, clip his head
Then get the charcoal, whassup, burn your dog's legs
Walk by the barbershop, and hit the glass with eggs
Then go in the club and dance, mix the alcohol
Great with roach spray, here's a drink, have a ball
Dance to the music, watch it party pooper
Yeah, you know...
biting them in the ultramags.
should check out Aceyalone's classic LP 'All Balls Don't Bounce'
similar playful lingustic surrealism and another great album. probably more obvious comparison points but I think I bought them on the same day and have enjoyed them both eternally ever since.
love me some Ace (1st two albums anyway, and Freestyle Fellowship).
A Book Of Human Language might be a closer touch point to Doc Oc as its a little more conceptual and weird compared to ABDB, the beats are (sometimes) equally as off kilter as Doc Oc.
for reasons unbeknown I've never ventured further into Aceyalone's catalogue (part from FF), always something I had earmarked for a rainy day. Maybe it is time.
could probably compile a pretty good 15 song playlist of post ADBD songs tho.
I ever listened to. Isn't the rest of Kool Keith's stuff meant to be absolute shit though? I haven't listened to this album in years.
Critical Beatdown - the first Ultramagentic MCs album - is one of the best records ever made. The other two Ultramag albums both have their moments as well, but are nothing like as good.
Kool Keith solo is definitely a mixed bag - Dr Octagonecologyst is awesome and Sex Style is great too, but it's diminishing returns from there on. Having said that, just about all of his records (or at least the ones I've heard) have some redeaming tunes.
is also pretty essential, more so than Sex Style imo. CB is def essential.
Would also add that the Cenobites LP (Kool Keith and Godfather Don) and the Masters of Illusion LP (Kool Keith, Motion Man & Kutmaster Kurt) are also top to bottom great
and that when you're in a Kool Keith mood he's untouchable.
I really like the Diesel Truckers album.
First Come, First Served is a nice slice of crazy with some seriously great urban horror hooks in it and a brilliant, scathing pastiche of Gangsta Rap.
borrowed this album from me and never gave it back. I hate that guy.
