definitely, definitely not seen any female vocals for many decades
Anyway, I was about to say that my top records of the year so far are all females on vocals: Lana, Sharon Van Etten, Chairlift and Santigold.
And the only records I'm really looking forward to are Cat Power and Fionna Apple's.
Can't remember this strong an outing by the fairer sex. Could just be my taste, but I'm thinking it's thread-worthy nonetheless.
or just make funny ^^ comments.
Either works for me. :)
Last year it was some people and the year before it was some other people and yeah. Look at this post I made in the past: http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4207457#r5015588
Kind of a sub-mediocre year so far for records, eh?
I mean, look at the recommended records to the right.
Actress: OK, it's really interesting, but not in the way that has staying power. A year from now I won't think to pull it out.
Chromatics: Good, but a bit overrated, imo. Also, female vocal.
DG, P, JH...OK, fair enough, I haven't heard 'em.
Blood Red Shoes. Not heard this record, but I have heard 'em...and this, I imagine, is one of DiS's review recommendations that can't be trusted. (See also: JoFo)
Maybe you're on to something. Moonface as well, actually - I like the Moonface album. And I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but you might like the Weird Dreams album. And the Jack White album. Have you heard the Jack White album?
Jack White's record, for me, is solidly good...but lacks the killer punch the best WS records have. 7/10
I will check out Weird Dreams.
There does seem to be a lot of lovely ladies around at the mo and no-one has mentioned Julia Holter yet. Ekstasis is comfortably my favourite album of the year.
Hanna Hukkelberg's latest is pretty good too.
As for Lana, I struggle to listen to the album but the individual songs are winning me over.
female isn't a genre.
