New Light Asylum's debut album streaming
http://www.spin.com/articles/hear-light-asylums-full-self-titled-debut-album
I don't really feel like I've listened to it enough to make a fair comment right now but I really enjoyed the 'In Tension' EP.
It's got a some good tracks but the stand outs for me so far are tracks that were already released (either on the ep or as demos) such as 'Shallow Tears', 'Angel Tongue', 'End Of Days', and a 'A Certain Person'. The single 'IPC' is pretty good too.
The new stuff like 'Hour Fortress', 'Pope Will Roll', Heart of Dust' and 'Sins Of The Flesh' aren't as immediate.
I would be interested to hear what other people think - especially those who like me, thought the EP was promising.

four really strong EP tracks have the edge over a full album
The In Tension ep had more than promise, it was the real thing, tangible, right there. I've listened to the album a couple of times and feel the same as you - it pretty much alternates the thumping roaring tracks with brooding overcast ones so it neve really feels like it hits the full flight that Shannon Funchess' vocals are always pulling at - even when restrained you can feel the full power that's being held back, and it;s the same with the beats and synth momentum - I just want the whole thing to unleash and create waves, but so far I haven't been hit as hard as I was hoping. There's nothing quite as overwhelming as Dark Allies or Sull Fuct, but the songs you mention are all the ones that come closest.
Mexican Summer are streaming it on their Soundcloud themselves btw: http://soundcloud.com/mexicansummer/sets/light-asylum-light-asylum-1/
as an aside - why can;t I follow any Mexican Summer links? they all, always, go to a dead page saying "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." It's a rare day I can actually get into their site. Obviously that doesn't happen to everyone, so why me? sadface.
this thread did not deserve to die

very good album, great band. go see them if you get the chance, they will not disappoint.
Nah, still disappointed with the LP.
Doesn't live up to the promise of the EP. Shame really.
we'll just agree to disagree

Jay Z's laugh.
