Morrissey
The Smiths
Trending on Twitter at the moment so it must be nonsense.
BS
No.
Just no.
not exactly the most credible source, is it?
Sadly I think it will actually happen sooner or later.
I really don't want it to.
I've never heard of this website
I'm going to dismiss it
I can perhaps see Morrissey and Marr playing together again at some point.
Maybe Marr joining Morrissey's band for a tour or something, but I don't believe the four of them will play together again.
the Smiths were just Marr and Morrissey, though.
musically, and possibly even legally.
the other two are great lads, but they could've been anyone.
Andy Rouke was an excellent bassist
His playing may have not been the most complex but it was perfect for complimenting the twangy guitar of The Smiths.
I hate it when people say this - The Smiths weren't two of Lenny Kravitz's fucking touring session musicians.
Anyone would have been 'perfect for complimenting the twangy guitar of The Smiths'
Aw man, you guys are awful
What about Colin Greenwood? He's magnificent, perfect for Radiohead's sound that I don't think many other bassists could do. Same with Ringo Starr - he wasn't amazing, but he was perfect fo the mix.
They become perfect for the mix
Just like any other competent musician would.
Correct, the best bass players are the ones that play what the song needs.
Why I love Kim Deal
Should say that doesn't just extend to bass players
Show off guitarists can get to fuck as well. It's not 1976 anymore.
The smiths basslines are some of their best bits and really drive the songs
Way more than competent, but who actually wrote them if it was marr I guess he deserves the credit. It's also annoying that drummers never get credit as if they are interchangeable when they are really key
Pretty Girls Make Graves
That's a good bassline
Would put money on Marr writing them though as you say
reading this thread http://drownedinsound.com/community/boards/music/4208231
seems to be some saying it wasn't all marr. I know marr is always down as writing all the music, but I can imagine in typical guitarist fashion that once he'd written his parts he considered that the song and the bass and drums minor embellishments on his work. I dont know though he could have written them I just think rourke was clearly a good bassist to be able to play those parts (they are not the simple accompaniment some are making out in these threads) surely he would want input in what he played, alot of time in bands guitarists just want bass players to follow their chords root notes on bass and bassist try and expand on that, the smiths sounds like the later going on to me
Wrongolicious, baby.
So wrong even CG this'd it.
For example: tracks like Heaven knows I'm miserable now
are made by the bass lines.
^
tempted to start a best smiths basslines thread
it'd be shit anyway
i'd lose a bit of respect for them if they did this.
course, i'd still go (or at least try to get tickets, though ToutItMaster and the other ballbags would keep them all in house, anyway) but it'd be a fucking car crash.
i wouldn't particularly blame them for taking the money, but it'd be a bit sad after they've said it's not about money for 20 years plus.
won't happen, though, so probably not worth crying about.
They might have got to a point where it's not about the money anymore.
Morrissey's band have been getting a bit of stick for their blandity on the official message boards and Johnny Marr seems like a guy really in need of something to do.
I think people always assume it's the money bringing them back (and once it gets over a certain figure, it probably becomes a factor) but with these two, if it was just about the money they could have probably stopped a long while back.
I would go and see them...
...but I haven't got a stitch to weeeaaaaaaarrrrr...
The Smiths. Not very often DiScussed. I'd say they were one of the oddest 'mainstream' bands there ever was.
id be more excited
If Marr worked with The The again, im still pissed off i couldnt see them when they toured mind bomb.
Mike Joyce just said...
It's not happening, as far as he knows
I guess Mike Joyce would be the last one to be consulted, or indeed invited to be in the reformed group.
If he does, I hope they open with this

Totes happening, LOL, JK, it's really not.
I heard from a very credible source a few months back that it was happening.
I was told Morrissey and Marr had signed up, with the other two TBC but seen as non-essential.
Hopefully they'll do it and, like the Stone Roses will do in a few months time,
tarnish their reputation so much that everyone stops fucking going on about them.
denied.
nothing to see here everybody, move along

Johnny Marr on Twitter:
"Hey Everybody !! Amazing news !....My amp is fixed ! Johnny."
Heh. I'd go watch this, I'd love to see Moz play with a magical guitarist rather than the purely competent bunch he's got now. But even though the Smiths were my gateway drug for indie music, way back in 1987, I have no particular desire for them to reform.
I for one welcome the reformation, so everyone can see them being total fannies.
And Johnny on Facebook confirms its not happening
https://www.facebook.com/officialjohnnymarr
Although of course Squire did this all last year before the Roses re-formed.
Mozza HATES Joyce
who is and has been chasing him through he courts for a decade to get at the money he owes him. Mozza's most recent quote on it was "The Smiths will end in murder". i'm amazed anyone's taken in by the story.
