Jools Holland 24th April
Jack White - yawn
Grimes - yawn

whaaat?!
i thought it was one of the best ones for ages.
DiSer not being fond of an episode of Jools Holland shock
Was a lot better than usual
Found it impossible to hate alabama shakes, though was completely ready to. They were actually... ok... didn't mind he jack white songs at all and was happily underwhelmed by the overhyped grimes. Plus, hot girl violinist with the chieftains making their presence forgiveable.
But, jack white, girl or boy band, who was better?
both drummers were pretty good
girl is from autolux
also guy keyboardist is Ikey from The Mars volta
Drum battle on Fridays show
Plz
my twitter feed and all the blogs I like
seem to be in a tizzy about that Grimes performance http://www.nialler9.com/13891-grimes-genesis-live-jools-holland/
although I can never quite tell if some people celebrate acts like Grimes in order to 'fit in' or self-define, rather than because they genuinely think she is incredible. Like, I think she's good, and an interesting new act, but let's not go overboard here...
Come on now sean...
Going overboard is your kind of thing. That rendition of Genesis was the first Grimes song I heard, and it prompted me to give Visions a go, which I am currently enjoying very much.
Now I'm not saying hyping Grimes is anyway more valid than doing the same to Polica/SVIIB etc...but surely its understandable.
Alabama Shakes
Matt Lucas in a wig?
:O oh shit
I've managed to avoid Alabama Shakes so far
but seriously? SERIOUSLY? It was like some kind of sub-2002 blues rock dirge. I have no idea what people are going crazy about.
Grimes was OK.
only tuned in for Grimes
seems a bit pointless, live.
Not exactly pointless
but certainly lacked a bit of magic
Grimes <33333333
Cheer Up Everyone
I heard a rumour that St Vincent was on next week.
Not brilliant, but better than normal and pretty enjoyable throughout
Thought Jack White was great and Grimes too.
Rest of it inoffensive.
hawley will be great, i think o'connor has pulled out already?
Grimes is so cute

Omg I didn't mean your voice Grimes xxx
Norah Jones was actually pretty good (then again, anything sounds 50% more awesome with a Wurlitzer)
The beard of the bassist in Alabama Shakes was clearly the best thing about the show
I really enjoyed it this week
It was nice to see Jack White with a decent drummer for a change.
The Chieftians were class.
the alabama shakes' success is just utterly despairing isn't it. why would anyone make, or listen, to this music
:'''(
I've said this plenty of times
but it could be a lot worse, I mean I don't mind listening to it (though won't out of choice), though I was shocked to find out the lead vocalist was actually a women
it really couldn't be worse. there isn't anything redeeming about them at all.
Fairly catchy & inoffensive music
whose the chick in the red dress, that was shit
it is offensive though. really, really, really boring blues rock with some shit purposefully 'raw' gurning vocals over the top. awful
I quite liked Grimes
Think the beat artist though was probably Norah Jones. No lie.
yeah agree on both counts. love that old nancy sinatra style guitar on the last song. fairly sure it's the best style of playing
Grimes was just rubbish karaoke
and i quite like Grimes
not really. it's live looping. like your ed sheerans
also
Jack White's first band sounded just like his second band
Grimes was really good
Sounded much better than on record, and the lightshow was quite nice
That was my first exposure to Alabama Shakes
Erm... she HAS got a great voice, but why is she using it backed by a current day version of Counting Crows? I was expecting something exciting, from everything I'd read.
I really enjoyed Jack White though.
