Pulled it out of the bag a bit I reckon
But wasn't all that keen on the new tracks when I saw them at the Albert Hall.
I shall know by the end of tonight either way.
still loving Hey Jane, and Too Late, Mary, and So Long You Pretty thing are some early favourites.
I was ready to be let down by this album, but came away surprisingly impressed.
Hey Jane, I Am What I Am, Mary & So Long You Pretty Thing really grabbing me from first listen.
(Although HMV Oxford St did not get their delivery of the new album today so I have not been able to pick this up yet so I'm still stuck listening to the streams)
Some of it is fantastic - Hey Jane, I Am What I Am and especially Heading For The Top all stood out. Some of the more ballady-type songs are a bit weaker, but usually have choruses that are irresistible, so he gets away with it (apart from on Freedom, which doesn't have much going on at all).
but this was a crushing disappointment. Have only given it three listens and not sure I can stomach it another time.
this is far better than A&E
as such, this is a decent listen. better than A&E, yes..
better than the last 2 elpees....the mix is a little odd though.
Some blinding tracks, some pretty good and only one or two weaker ones. Can't fault the lad.
Grandiose, noisy, cohesive, majestic. His strongest record since the 90's.
