The spirit of Bill Grundy lives on.
...got cut short for this? Hrrrrm.
Shite journalism, shite band
However I didn't know they were charging £100 for t-shirts; were people actually buying them?!
Those shirts were £25 at Brixton Academy.
Newsnight are professional trolls. So are OFWGKTA.
The only people who looked truly bad were those nasty little hipster bacteria with the stupid fucking haircuts who were screaming like fucking Beatlemania.
It was superb.
Like how Left Brain launches into a pretty tongue-in-cheek tirade about slanging, collecting money, not paying anybody taxes, and then he follows it up by asking the manager if they avoid taxes..
I enjoyed this for the reasons moshymoshy outlined but I do also feel there is a slightly more interesting story here if the reporter hadn't been quite so oblivious.
It's a long time since we've had a truly crossed over (not that Odd Future sell that much in the real world, but still) MORAL OUTRAGE artist, probably not since Eminem and Slipknot, and in that time music reporting has become so much more ingrained that they don't really know any more how to approach it in case it becomes hugely popular for counter-cultural reasons.
Thouroughly decent chap.
I wish that their music hadn't softened around the edges recently
Turned it off when Petridis came on. Fucking talking heads.
Wonder why he kept looking up
Glory days. We'll never see the likes of them again.
Their performance on Jimmy Fallon and the day the video for Yonkers was released will probably be the most exciting musical moments I will remember from my youth. Can't think of anything else that has hit that level.
look at his face!
Pretty much sums it up.
If only Baaadad was still around to get the real story.
they are really funny and pretty brilliant to be honest. as stupid as it sounds, they genuinely 'dont give a fuck'. they make things awkward interviews, and generally have a laugh.
they're not great to listen to, a few releases aside ('Bastard', 'Earl' and most Jet Age of Tomorrow Stuff). But they're a laugh, I enjoy reading about what they've been up to, and I suppose they could be classed as 'performance artists' in some sense.
Is that stupid? I'm not sure if that's stupid.
American diners. Out of his depth a bit there. Odd future being odd future.
pretty sure you're the biggest bellend to've ever walked the earth if you've spent a hundred quid on an odd future t-shirt
i quite like him.
You do realise that the presenter is playing it for kicks? When he's reporting on cultural events that outside his usual orbit he plays the ignorant and faintly amused observer trying to find out more rather than pretending to well informed, it's a Newsnight style Paxman does it sometimes too. Works well considering their audience probably doesn't cross much with Odd Future.
But can we take a second to reflect on the staggering trolling success of Odd Future's merch:
- a tie-dye t-shirt with an upside down cross, inside which was Jesus Christ
- numerous t-shirts of a silhouette of a cat's head inside a rainbow border with GOLF WANG written beneath
- a t-shirt that said I <3 Miley Cyrus with the love heart made of two dolphins.
- a hoodie with their merch guy's face on it.
- Golf Wang embroidered socks.
- a tray of plastic doughnuts.
all selling for not inconsiderable sums.
was meant to be a reply to Nestor.
"so how does this 'pop up shop' work?" like take a wild guess.
One of the worst interviews I have ever seen.
he's just so, so old
The blogosphere may have made OFWGKTA popular, but they are a bit beyond that now. In fact, they are absolutely massive due to 90% of their fanbase being made up of kids like the ones in that video, who are essentially teenagers who have never listened listened to a "hipster" or "indie" album in their life.
"Are there any washing instructions in here"
Camera shows; FUCK WASHING printed on inside.
Bold as brass these boys.
Newsnight cover OFWGKTA as they should've done, bar perhaps a couple of the annoying interviews with punters.
the only bit of the reporting that spoils it is the implication that all their fans are daft young kids. I'm knocking on for 40, and I fucking love them.
Hopefully this comment also "justifies Odd Future's existence". Jesus. The whole piece was flawed, all of it.
Jeeeeesus fucking christ...everything he says.
is a fucking bellend.
