Stand-outs so far:
Everyone's in agreement yeah?
Can't wait for my copy to arrive, have only heard the singles so far...
I like every track and there`s some growers on there[Never and the title track]. Definately reckon it has a similar vibe to their early/old stuff.
Looking forward to hearing the whole record.
Reviewed it for the site so should be up soon hopefully. It's not another In Sides or as pioneering as the early 3, but it's an incredibly good listen from start to finish with a handful of tracks just made for playing live.
I kinda prefer it when reviews come out on release day anyhow
Deliberately avoided searching for streams as I want to buy it in the morning, lock myself in a room for the day, and get acquainted with it.
Bought it at the same time as tickets. High hopes.
Something I meant to mention in the review but forgot to, was how for several albums now the band had strived to make some of their songs as good in 5 minutes as they are over 10-12. And I think they've finally done it.
so I'll give my opinion when it arrives. I love Orbital though, and haven't seen a bad review of this yet, so I'm expecting aceness.
heard it twice in full yesterday and loved it.
with Orbital? which albums...?
^that is the best use of £8.99 you will ever find. The first five albums are an astonishing run of quality.
Though I'm pretty sure I started by just playing Chime and Belfast to death after being sent them. I also bought that box set which made me stiff.
You will never get better value from 9 quid in your life.
even though I have no money...:-( / :-)
blimey that's a lot of bang for your buck.
You won't need to go out for a bit when it arrives.
which is the best of those 5?
...and they did a tune with David Gray??? bad call, that.
But yeah, in hindsight...
and yeah I think they've said they regret that one. The Altogether is widely accepted as their one big dud album, especially because it came after such a run of success.
Did work great in their set, if not so much on record.
but amongst the others their one BIG dud is clearly Bath Time. Not really sure what it's trying to be (public domain BBC Learning Zone music from the 70's?!) but it sounds terrible.
The Blue Album might not have had any duds, but it was dull throughout, which is the only one of their records you could say that about...
Bath Time. Does anyone like it?
Was it a score or something...?
Bath Time is a track off The Blue Album:
Great stuff! Halcyon days. The wub wub works well.
Wonky is SUCH a tune, I especially love the vocal delivery on it
Never and New France are the other 2 highlights for me so far
Which, in case you are confused, is no bad thing.
but that's not a bad thing, because when she raps she has awesome delivery... she just has shit songs
The production is quality, sounds great on earphones/headphones.
album of the year after three listens?
DAMN I ADORE THIS
Got it now. Oh man, this is really really great. The live CD with the special edition is top notch too.
people went absolutely fucking ape shit happy for the track Wonky.
Shes pretty wicked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCgTYdp3cOc / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pDCcnrgP4c
Can't say I'll be in a mood for an Orbital album for a while tho. What I've heard from it so far isn't inspiring me to dig in either.
...then give the new album a front-to-back listen. Pretty sure it's streaming somewhere.
I don't go back to them much nowadays tho and the few bits I've heard from this one sounds like regular orbital from the mid period to me with the odd modern influence like a wobble here and there steppy beats or a vocal from someone new.
good interview here with Orbital including a bit of technical stuff about how they write their tunes.
It is very good. Album of the Year for me thus far.
SO I've had a week with it, I'm old like nearly 40, loved them back in the day etc etc BUT SERIOUSLY this ain't no old skool nostalgia THIS ALBUM IS IMMENSE
(esp Beelezedub) (for now>>)
