bands/artists you like whose names start with...D
Staightforward lists, Youtube/Spotify links, whatever, etc.
Of the stuff recommended for C, i've finally got round to listening to Camera Obscura and am a fan, have had Captain Beefheart's 'Safe As Milk' on repeat for about two weeks, really love Cat Power's debut, have been investigating Chad vanGaalen again, and quite like some of the Cranes stuff. Thanks to everyone.

Don Lennon. poosie turned me onto him a few months ago + he seems to be the most under-rated singer/songwriter of all time. hilarious/heartbreaking indie-pop hits in the vein of The Magnetic Fields or Jens Lekman but not really like either of those.
Junior Year Abroad
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V06FbrrIXtc
that's from his last album Routine which is on Spotify which features such recurring themes as his favourite stand-up comedians + gap years.
i prefer Raul McCartney.
yeah the name is a bit shit. it's weird though because he's being going since the 80s or so before all this shocking chillwave malarkey broke.
his old band The Umpteens released one of the best songs of all time

Doves
i fucking love Doves. "oh but they are a shit Elbow". No, Elbow are now a shit Elbow and Doves are Doves, who I might add are really fucking great.
I like that Death In June song Rain clouds of Holocaust or whatever it's called. They begin with D.
The Delgados
have been mentioned twice already but I'll mention them again because I love their label.
I always thought Doves were better than Elbow, and Doves are consistently good, suprised they weren`t/aren`t bigger.
i think they got pretty big to be fair
Three number one chart albums and their last one missed out the No. 1 spot by something stupid like 9 copies. They piss all over Coldplay and the like when it comes to old everymen playing rock tunes. I think it's mainly cos Jimmy is great and their influences are more off-kilter, I remember reading about his love for Madvillain and the like.
Yeah you`re probably right
But I don`t really know much about chart positions and whatnot. I always thought musically/sonically they were better and more interesting than similar bands, and they`ve just got some classic, beautiful tunes.

any more D's?
E to follow shortly.
I don't really see the point of just posting names
Daniel Bachman - American Primitive guitar/banjo player. Super talented. Plays music pretty similar to Jack Rose (and everyone else that sounds quite a lot like John Fahey) but with a slightly more aggressive style (leaning towards Bill Orcutt at times). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqcCtquaY8s
Daphne Oram - Should probably go under Oram, Daphne but whatever. She cofounded the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in the late '50s and made a huge amount of strange experimental electronic music/invented her own 'drawn sound' inventions called 'Oramics'. Cool lady. She didn't really make 'songs' or music to be listened to for fun but it's interesting every so often to explore the stuff she made and it's crazy to think how long ago she made it all! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG17HiXyH9E&feature=related
Delia Derbyshire - another Radiophonics figure. Haven't heard a lot of her stuff, but I really like this terrifying series she made of people talking about their dreams over abstract synth stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLxbZv_yNFE (the one on 'conceptions of God.)
Deastro - not groundbreaking but really good synth-pop. Love these songs:

Dustin Wong - Mark Mcguire style loopy guitar. He's really good at it too though - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWj-we0CM4o
