...to make music in the vein of Halls' Fragile EP.
It has inspired me.
it's a thing thing
it's more where you are going to get your sounds from
a digital synth?
if you're recording then you'll need a mic--> preamp-->soundcard combo of some description
sounds to me like halls is a mixture of recording, softsynths(VSTis/digital synths - can't really tell) and maybe some analogue stuff too
One thing that isn't in doubt though is that there is some quality reverb and delay being used
Whether it is high end plugins or outboard or a combination isn't easy to tell
you need to think also about your monitoring environment ie monitors, room acoustics etc
the whole warm feel is likely down to use of analogue compression/eq in mixing/mastering
I could go into all of this in massively more detail but this is your basic answer
Good luck pichaelmarker - apologies for early morning beer recovery facetiousness. I've often wanted to do this sort of thing myself but always wonder whether talent is a pre-requisite(I guess 'imagination' and 'application' are more important). It's like when people tell me they 'do a bit' of what I do and therefore think they can do it themselves. But with music, I guess part of the process is for the person making the music, and there will always be someone who likes what you do.
Anyway, good luck and sorry for being an *rse.
